Senior Backend Software Engineer

Location: Antwerp or Amsterdam — Hybrid

Experience: 8+ years in backend or full-stack software engineering

Own the backend platform behind Loop’s connected products and help create secure, reliable experiences that seamlessly connect hardware, mobile applications, and the cloud.

This isn't a lateral move. We built Loop by going all in from day one. You’ll design, build, deploy, and operate the cloud services that power our connected product ecosystem. All yours. If you've mastered backend engineering and you're ready to break the rules that no longer work, this is where you do it.

The role

You step into ownership. You move fast and take responsibility for what you build. You focus on work that matters, not on noise that slows things down. You’ll own the backend capabilities behind Loop’s connected product platform, from authentication and diagnostics to firmware updates, device communication, fleet-data access, and usage history.

Working closely with Product Management, Firmware & Hardware Engineering, and Mobile Engineering, you’ll turn product requirements into scalable technical solutions and deliver secure, reliable, and seamless connected experiences for our customers.

What you’ll do (and what you won’t)

  • You own the backend services powering Loop’s connected products end-to-end
  • You design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable backend services and APIs
  • You build and operate cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform, including Firebase Authentication and Cloud Storage
  • You own deployment pipelines, environments, monitoring, operational health, and platform reliability
  • You design secure backend solutions, including access control, infrastructure hardening, security reviews, and pre-release penetration testing
  • You collaborate across Product, Firmware, Hardware, and Mobile Engineering to deliver reliable device-to-cloud integration, robust APIs, and optimized data flows
  • You provide technical direction to software development partners and ensure externally delivered solutions meet Loop’s engineering standards
  • You strengthen engineering practices through code reviews, mentoring, and continuous improvement

You won’t

  • wait for endless approvals
  • hide behind processes
  • talk about AI without practicing it in your workflow
  • spend months polishing work before launching it

How you’ll succeed

We look for people who think big, stay curious, and aren’t afraid to go all in to make things happen. You’ll combine hands-on software engineering with systems thinking, take ownership of the platform’s operational health, and make pragmatic technical decisions that balance scalability, performance, security, reliability, maintainability, and delivery.

What you’ll bring

  • You bring at least 8 years of experience developing production software in backend or full-stack engineering roles
  • You have strong experience designing, building, deploying, and operating backend services and cloud-based applications
  • You have production experience with Google Cloud Platform and Firebase services
  • You understand API design, authentication, cloud storage, distributed systems, and modern software architecture
  • You have experience with CI/CD, infrastructure management, monitoring, and operating production systems
  • You bring a security-first mindset and experience applying secure software development practices
  • You collaborate effectively within cross-functional product development teams
  • You take a pragmatic approach to technical decision-making
  • You use AI-assisted engineering tools and workflows to improve development, testing, debugging, documentation, and code quality
  • Experience with connected or IoT products is a plus
  • Experience working with firmware teams and device communication technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy is a plus
  • Experience supporting firmware-over-the-air update platforms is a plus
  • Experience working with consumer hardware products is a plus
  • You’re comfortable with change and ambiguity
  • You know when work is ready to ship, and when it can evolve

Loop isn’t for everyone. We might not be a match if you:

  • Wait for direction instead of taking initiative
  • Mistake activity for impact
  • Feel uneasy when things are still taking shape
  • Prefer alignment meetings over decisions

Still listening?

Good. We are not looking for people to watch from the sidelines. Loopers step in, speak up and go for more. More firsts. More growth. More: “I can’t believe we did that.” If you are like that too, press that beautiful apply button and let’s talk.
