Senior AI Engineer - @Cori
Breega · Barcelona, Spain
You apply on the site where the job is posted. I never handle applications.
Cori Clinical is the operating system behind better clinical trials. Cori builds the best-in-class AI platform for the entire trial startup: research, design, authoring, review, and amendments, so the science never waits on the process. Founded in 2025 by Jorn Jansen Schoonhoven (CEO, ex-Amazon, ex-IBM) and Patricio Fernández Weisson (CTO, ex-AstraZeneca, ex-Sanofi), and backed by leading investors.
Why join:
- Help redefine how clinical trials are run using AI, in one of the most important industries in the world,
- Work alongside a small team of exceptional engineers, operators, and clinical experts solving genuinely hard problems,
- High freedom for research and testing, with lots of green fields for your ideas,
- Build systems that don't just automate workflows, they accelerate getting new treatments to patients faster,
- Work directly with leadership and founders.
Values
- High agency,
- Curiosity,
- Creativity,
- Accountability,
- Transparency.
Mission highlights
We are building an AI-guided system that accelerates clinical trials to speeds never seen before. So any organization, large or small, can get medicine to patients faster.
Reporting Line
Patricio, Co-Founder & CTO.
First 3 months
- Ship to production one agentic workflow live with real users, taking a multi-step trial process from chat to completed output,
- Define what "good" means for our AI systems and hold releases to it: accuracy, latency, cost, and failure modes, backed by an eval framework you designed,
- Own the AI architecture decisions: agent framework, evals, model and fine-tuning strategy, build vs buy. You set the direction.
By month 6
- Cori's AI roadmap is yours to shape alongside the founders,
- At least 2 additional workflows have been built and deployed to production,
- Cori's AI strategy (agents, harness, fine-tuning) is defined and the first pieces are in production.
Responsibilities
- Own AI-related technical decisions across the company and products,
- Design and build agent frameworks for complex, multi-step workflows,
- Go beyond RAG: tool use, structured outputs, multi-agent/multi-chain systems,
- Build eval and feedback loops (testing, scoring, iteration),
- Ship reliable, production-grade AI systems (accounting for latency, cost, and failure modes),
- Turn messy clinical processes into deterministic, auditable systems,
- Stay current with and experiment with SOTA technologies in the field.
Competencies
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience, including 1-2+ years building LLM-based systems in production,
- Strong Python backend engineer (FastAPI, infrastructure, data structures),
- Real, hands-on experience with LLMs in complex, agent-based workflows, not just API calls to a foundation model,
- Comfortable guiding decisions on LLM/SLM fine-tuning strategy,
- Track record shipping multi-step/agentic systems to production, not just prototypes,
- Experience with evals, observability, and system reliability practices,
- Solid ML/NLP fundamentals,
- Prior experience in a startup or fast-paced environment strongly preferred,
- Fully fluent in English (mandatory).
Stack: Python, FastAPI, LangGraph, Postgres, Vector DBs, GCP/AWS, Docker
Recruitment process
- Screening with Patricio (Cofounder & CTO),
- Case study,
- Debrief with Cori engineers,
- Final interview with Emma (Chief Clinical Officer) and Jorn (Cofounder & CEO).
Compensation & benefits
- 90-95K (EU) + equity,
- Hybrid 3 days in-office / Barcelona,
- Health insurance,
- Lunch vouchers through Cobee.
