The Position
As Project Lead Terminals, you are responsible for independently managing and executing multiple modification, replacement, and expansion projects simultaneously across the VAROPreem Benelux terminals. You oversee all project phases from concept development and engineering through execution, commissioning, and formal handover to Operations and Maintenance.
In this role, you ensure that projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and according to agreed quality standards. You coordinate internal stakeholders, contractors, suppliers, and technical advisors throughout the project lifecycle and play a key role in safeguarding technical integrity, operational continuity, and HSEQ compliance across all activities.You will contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, project execution methodologies, and technical processes while supporting the development of future-ready terminal infrastructure aligned with operational and strategic objectives.
You report directly to the Engineering Manager BNLX and collaborate closely with departments including Operations, Maintenance, HSEQ, PQ, Commercial, Finance, and Supply Chain, as well as external contractors, suppliers, and engineering consultants.

Your Key Responsibilities
Manage multiple technical CAPEX projects simultaneously, including modifications, replacements, and terminal expansion projects;
Execute projects in accordance with the VAROPreem Benelux project process and stage-gate methodology;
Develop project scope definitions, functional requirements, project schedules, budgets, quality plans, and risk assessments;
Coordinate and monitor engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover activities throughout the project lifecycle;
Ensure projects are delivered within agreed timelines, budgets, safety requirements, and quality standards;
Monitor and control project progress through reporting on KPIs, budget status, planning, risks, forecast-to-complete, and scope changes;
Ensure technical project documentation and asset information are properly completed and transferred to Maintenance systems;
Evaluate contractor and supplier proposals, quotations, and technical compliance with project requirements;
Monitor/supervise contractor performance during execution and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and project delivery expectations;
Initiate and support Management of Change (MOC), HAZOP studies, task risk analyses, and project safety reviews;
Ensure project-specific safety plans (VGWM plans) are established and implemented together with contractors and HSEQ;
Act as a technical knowledge resource within your discipline towards Operations, Maintenance, and fellow project engineers.

Your Profile
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Process, Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical discipline;
At least 5 years of relevant experience within industrial environments such as terminals, oil & gas, chemicals, logistics, or heavy industry;
Proven experience managing technical CAPEX projects as project owner or project leader/engineer;
Experience coordinating contractors, suppliers, and multidisciplinary project teams;
Knowledge of industrial safety standards, HSEQ requirements, permitting processes, and Management of Change procedures;
Experience with budgeting, planning, project reporting, and project control methodologies;
Knowledge of technical installations, engineering systems, and industrial infrastructure;
Possession of VCA VOL certification (or willingness to obtain);
Possession of a valid driver’s license (B);
Willingness to travel within the Netherlands and Belgium approximately 2–3 days per week;
Fluency in English, both written and verbal (Dutch is a plus).
