About MITS Industries

MITS Industries is establishing an R&D and design site in Copenhagen focused on advanced RF systems, signal intelligence, aerospace technologies, and mission-critical product development.

The site will build core engineering capabilities in RF and microwave hardware, antenna systems, RF testing and characterization, rugged mechanical integration, and the industrialization of complex radio-electronic systems.

The Copenhagen team will work closely with strategic partners and engineering teams across Europe, playing a leading role in the development, validation, and industrialization of advanced technologies for defense, aerospace, and other demanding applications.

One of the initial focus areas will be the development of an advanced aerospace signal intelligence product platform. The work will cover RF and system architecture, antenna system design, signal acquisition, embedded control, laboratory validation, mechanical integration, integration with the satellite platform, and preparation for production and field deployment.

The ambition is to build a strong technical design site capable of taking complex RF products, modules, and platforms from architecture and detailed design through prototyping, testing, validation, industrialization, and deployment.

About the role

MITS Industries is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the core Copenhagen R&D team and help build the site’s mechanical design capability for antenna and RF systems.

You will design and develop mechanical solutions for antenna systems and associated RF and electronic assemblies. The work includes antenna supports and mounts, RF-aware enclosures, radomes, fixed and deployable antenna mechanisms, test fixtures, thermal solutions, connectors, cable routing, sealing, environmental protection, and platform interfaces.

The role covers mechanical architecture, material and manufacturing-process selection, structural and thermal analysis, tolerance definition, detailed CAD design, prototyping, assembly, environmental validation, serviceability, and production release. Particular attention will be given to mechanical structures that directly affect antenna performance, integration, alignment, stability, and deployment.

You will work closely with antenna systems engineers, RF and microwave hardware engineers, system architects, RF test and characterization engineers, manufacturing partners, and partner engineering teams. The role requires strong mechanical design expertise, RF-aware product thinking, technical ownership, and hands-on implementation experience, taking designs from concept through prototype build and qualification to documented, manufacturable antenna assemblies and integrated systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Translate system, antenna, and platform requirements into mechanical architectures, interface definitions, design constraints, and technical trade-offs.
  • Design mechanical components and assemblies for antenna systems, including supports, mounts, frames, radomes, RF-aware enclosures, fixed or deployable mechanisms, and platform-integration structures.
  • Own the detailed mechanical implementation of antenna and RF assemblies, including 3D CAD models, 2D manufacturing drawings, GD&T, assembly-level tolerance analysis, BOMs, and configuration-controlled documentation.
  • Develop mechanical solutions that maintain antenna alignment, dimensional stability, RF clearance, grounding, shielding, cable routing, connector accessibility, and electromagnetic performance.
  • Integrate RF modules, antennas, electronics, connectors, cables, gaskets, thermal interfaces, and environmental sealing into complete mechanical assemblies.
  • Perform structural, thermal, and tolerance analyses covering stiffness, strength, mass, thermal expansion, heat transfer, vibration, shock, and expected environmental loads.
  • Define mechanical requirements and contribute to electromagnetic requirements for radomes, covers, supports, enclosures, and other structures located within or near the antenna field.
  • Design antenna deployment and positioning mechanisms, where applicable, including hinges, latches, restraints, stops, alignment features, and associated interfaces.
  • Design test fixtures, alignment tools, handling aids, assembly tooling, and prototype-support hardware for antenna and RF system development.
  • Select materials, coatings, surface treatments, fasteners, adhesives, seals, bearings, and manufacturing processes based on structural, thermal, RF, environmental, corrosion, and production requirements.
  • Lead mechanical prototype build, assembly, troubleshooting, design verification, and iterative improvement.
  • Contribute to environmental testing and qualification, including vibration, shock, thermal cycling, ingress protection, and other relevant mechanical validation activities.
  • Apply design-for-manufacture, design-for-assembly, serviceability, reliability, and cost considerations throughout development.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners on technical clarification, process selection, prototype production, inspection, non-conformance resolution, and production release.
  • Prepare mechanical specifications, analysis reports, interface-control documentation, design-review materials, assembly instructions, and production handover documentation.
  • Collaborate with antenna, RF and microwave hardware, system, test, electronics, manufacturing, and partner engineering teams.
  • Contribute to mechanical design standards, CAD practices, documentation templates, and engineering workflows for the Copenhagen design site.

Required qualifications and experience

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in mechanical design for antenna systems, aerospace hardware, RF/electronic products, or other rugged and mission-critical systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience developing mechanical components and complex assemblies from initial concept through detailed design, prototype build, verification, qualification, and production release.
  • Advanced proficiency with a professional 3D CAD and drafting environment such as SolidWorks, Siemens NX, PTC Creo, CATIA, or equivalent.
  • Strong command of GD&T, engineering drawing standards, assembly-level tolerance analysis, and production-quality mechanical documentation.
  • Experience designing antenna supports, mounts, frames, enclosures, radomes, mechanisms, fixtures, or other mechanically and electromagnetically constrained assemblies.
  • Experience with mechanical packaging and integration of antennas, RF modules, PCBs, connectors, cables, thermal interfaces, shielding, grounding, seals, and associated electronics.
  • Practical understanding of RF-aware mechanical design, including the effects of materials, structures, clearances, alignment, grounding, shielding, cabling, and radomes on antenna and RF performance.
  • Experience performing structural and thermal analysis using engineering calculations and finite-element analysis tools such as Ansys Mechanical, Abaqus, Simcenter 3D/Nastran, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of stiffness, strength, thermal expansion, heat transfer, vibration, shock, fatigue, and other relevant environmental loads.
  • Practical knowledge of metallic materials, engineering polymers, elastomers, composites, adhesives, coatings, and surface treatments.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including precision machining, sheet-metal fabrication, additive manufacturing, composite manufacture, joining, fastening, sealing, and assembly.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with prototype assembly, mechanical troubleshooting, design verification, and iterative improvement.
  • Experience supporting environmental testing and qualification, including vibration, shock, thermal cycling, ingress protection, or comparable validation activities.
  • Experience working with suppliers and manufacturing teams on process selection, technical clarification, inspection, non-conformance resolution, manufacturability, and production handover.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing lightweight, stiffness-critical structures with stringent alignment and dimensional-stability requirements.
  • Experience with aerospace or space-hardware qualification, including thermal vacuum testing, outgassing constraints, vibration, and shock. Experience with precision mechanical alignment, dimensional inspection, antenna positioning, and calibration or verification fixtures.
  • Experience designing IP-rated enclosures or ruggedized outdoor electronic equipment.
  • Experience with product data management, configuration control, and release processes for complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience working with international suppliers and manufacturing partners on low volume, high-complexity hardware.

Success in the first 6 months

  • Take technical ownership of one or more mechanical assemblies or integration areas for antenna and RF systems.
  • Establish the initial mechanical architecture, material and manufacturing approach, and platform-integration plan for the assigned scope.
  • Deliver reviewed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, tolerance analyses, interface definitions, and supporting design documentation.
  • Develop and support the assembly of initial mechanical prototypes, fixtures, or engineering models.
