Description

You will design the end-to-end product experience through which semiconductor engineers plan, set up, conduct, and evaluate experiments using our quantum sensing and metrology systems. This journey begins before a user opens the software: it includes experiment planning, sample preparation and mounting, instrument configuration, measurement, data analysis, and reporting.

While the majority of your work will focus on our software platform, you will design across the complete hardware-software workflow. You will consider how users move between physical equipment, samples, controls, system states, and digital interfaces - and identify opportunities to make the entire process more intuitive, reliable, and efficient.

Working closely with engineers, physicists, machine learning specialists, and customers, you will lead design challenges from discovery and workflow definition through validation and delivery. This is an opportunity to shape products at the intersection of scientific instrumentation, software, hardware, and user-centered design.

Who we are

Founded in 2022 as a spin-off of TU Munich, QD leverages quantum sensors to rapidly capture three-dimensional current maps within multi-layer chips. Our strong, international team of over 70, including physicists, engineers, data scientists, and other experts, works side by side with major semiconductor manufacturers, supporting chip debugging and accelerating yield analysis. Backed by top-tier deep tech investors, semiconductor experts, and strategic public programs, we have ensured long-term stability, shifting from breakthrough to scale - and shaping the next chapter in chip testing.#### Why join us?

Picture this:

  • Quantum sensors that see inside the most advanced chips on earth, right where two frontier fields collide.
  • Nobel-Prize physics aimed at real customers with real problems, in production now, not someday.
  • Physicists, data scientists, and engineers building side by side, turning deep science into tools the industry actually runs on.
  • An international team that runs at hard problems for fun, where knowledge moves fast and so do you.

Still unsure about why joining us?

  • You'll get to build a company together with a brilliant and welcoming team on a product that has never been done before.
  • From Day 1, you'll own your own topics end to end and see the direct impact of your work on how the world sees QuantumDiamonds.
  • Our technology is the cutting edge of tomorrow, starting today and not in 10 years.
  • You’ll be part of a high-growth company backed by top-tier investors.

Let’s make the invisible visible!#### What will you do

  • Own the end-to-end user experience across experiment planning, sample mounting, instrument setup, calibration, measurement, data analysis, and reporting. Develop a deep understanding of laboratory workflows, user goals, environmental constraints, dependencies, and potential sources of error.
  • Map complete user journeys across physical and digital touch points, identifying friction, risks, and opportunities for improvement. Design workflows and interfaces for our quantum sensing software platform, from early concepts through implementation-ready specifications.
  • Conduct contextual research, customer interviews, workflow observations, and usability testing with internal users and external customers. Prototype and evaluate software interactions and hardware-adjacent workflows, including instrument configuration, system feedback, and error recovery.
  • Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, high-fidelity designs, and clear interaction specifications in Figma. Design effective visualizations for measurement data, simulation results, system states, uncertainty, confidence indicators, and potential errors.
  • Collaborate with engineers, physicists, machine learning specialists, and product stakeholders to translate user needs and technical constraints into effective experiences. Facilitate design reviews, explain the evidence and trade-offs behind decisions, and work with engineering throughout implementation to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Develop and maintain a scalable design system across the software platform and connected instrument experiences. Contribute to product discovery, prioritization, and new product capabilities, while documenting research findings, user workflows, design decisions, and interaction patterns.

Senior candidates may also lead ambiguous cross-product initiatives, influence product strategy, mentor colleagues, and help establish design practices across the organization.#### What is expected of you

  • Professional experience designing complex B2B, technical, scientific, industrial, or data-intensive products, supported by a strong portfolio covering research, workflow and interaction design, prototyping, validation, and collaboration with engineering teams.
  • The ability to understand and improve journeys spanning software, hardware, physical processes, and operational constraints, while simplifying complex systems without removing important functionality, context, or user control.
  • Strong interaction design, information architecture, and visual design skills, with experience conducting user research and usability testing and applying the findings to product decisions.
  • Confidence owning design work from discovery and problem definition through delivery, including identifying usability risks, sources of error, and opportunities to improve the reliability and efficiency of technical workflows.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills when working with highly technical stakeholders, combined with a user-centered, analytical, detail-oriented, proactive, and collaborative approach.
  • A background in interaction design, product design, human-computer interaction, industrial design, computer science, or equivalent professional experience, together with the ability and willingness to work closely with a multidisciplinary team on-site in Munich.

Depending on your level of experience, different things matter:

  • At a mid-level, you're comfortable independently owning defined product areas and end-to-end workflows.
  • At a senior level, you're additionally able to lead ambiguous initiatives, influence product direction, align stakeholders across disciplines, and raise design quality across teams.

Nice to have:* Experience designing products that combine software, hardware, and physical interactions, particularly scientific instrumentation, laboratory equipment, engineering software, industrial systems, or other complex technical products.

  • Familiarity with laboratory workflows, sample handling, equipment configuration, experimental processes, service design, journey mapping, systems thinking, or human-factors design.
  • Experience with data visualization, analytics products, simulation software, or safety-critical, error-sensitive, and high-precision workflows.
  • Experience creating or maintaining design systems, familiarity with accessibility and inclusive design practices, or basic knowledge of Python, Qt, Git, or version-controlled workflows. Programming experience is not required for this role.
