The Institute of Classical Philology at the Faculty of History and Philosophy (FB 08) of the University of Münster seeks to fill the following position on 1 October 2027: Professorship (W3-level) in Ancient and Medieval Latin Philology

The prospective appointee should represent the entire spectrum of Latin philology in both research and teaching and possess substantiated expertise in the central areas of ancient Latin philology. An additional focus on Latin studies of post-antiquity, and in particular, medieval Latin philology is expected. We are seeking a candidate with proven expertise in other areas that are relevant to the profile of the position, e.g. documentary, reception and philological history, classical-philological methodology or cooperation with other philologies and related epoch-specific disciplines.

The candidate’s prior research should have been published in recognised, national and international publications, including at least two monographs devoted to the field of classical and/or Latin philology. We expect the candidate to participate in current and future research partnerships and teach courses in our cross-disciplinary degree programmes. The candidate will be required to teach and administer examinations at all levels of academic qualification, as well as supervise doctoral and habilitation projects.

Prior experience in securing third-party funding, collaborating in interdisciplinary and international partnerships and developing research projects within research consortia is desired.

To be considered for this position, the candidate should hold a university degree in the field of classical philology, pedagogical aptitude in university teaching and special academic qualification, substantiated by an outstanding doctoral degree in a subject related to the advertised position. The candidate should be distinguished by further excellent academic achievements, produced in connection with an assistant professorship (Juniorprofessur), habilitation (postdoctoral qualification), as a member of the academic staff of a university or non-university research institute, or in a research position in business, industry, administration or other relevant field in Germany or abroad.
