The Heinke group explores novel functional materials, like thin films of nanoporous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), and their physicochemical properties. By state-of-the-art spectroscopy techniques, the understanding of the interactions at the molecular level is enhanced. The focus is on the diffusion and adsorption of guest molecules in the pores, ion conduction and (opto)electronic properties of these modern functional films as well as their applications, e.g. for molecular separation and as unique sensors. "Smart" materials with remote-controllable properties, especially by means of light, are also being prepared and explored.

What You Can Expect in Your New Role
Nanoporous thin films of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) will be prepared and investigated. The focus is on the physicochemical properties of the thin films and the interaction with the guest molecules in the pores. The focus is on per- and polyfluorinated alkyl compounds (PFAS).
In particular, the uptake and mass transport in the pores, i.e. diffusion, will be investigated using various techniques, such as quartz crystal microbalance, infrared and Raman spectroscopy.
The work of this PhD project will be carried out within the framework of the CRC-1349 "Fluorine-Specific Interactions". The call and hiring are subject to the approval of the third funding period from 2027-2030 by the DFG at the end of November 2026.
Key Requirements
Completed university degree (Master/Diploma) in chemistry, physics, materials science, chemical engineering, or a related subject
