Are you an MSc student in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering Energy or a related discipline with an interest in renewable fuels and sustainable technologies? During this internship at SHV Energy, you will support the Sustainable Fuels team in identifying, evaluating and comparing technologies for renewable propane and renewable Dimethyl Ether. You will combine technical analysis, techno-economic modelling and strategic assessment to help identify pathways that can contribute to the long-term supply of renewable liquid gases.
About SHV Energy
SHV Energy’s Sustainable Fuels team works on identifying and evaluating pathways that can contribute to the long-term supply of renewable liquid gases, also known as rLG, for SHV Energy’s global business units. Within this internship, you will work closely with the Lead Chemical Engineer, Sustainable Fuels, and contribute to projects focused on renewable propane, renewable Dimethyl Ether and the wider energy transition.

Internship Objective
The objective of this internship is to support SHV Energy’s Sustainable Fuels team in identifying, evaluating and comparing technologies capable of producing renewable propane and renewable Dimethyl Ether, also known as renewable liquid gases (rLG). The intern will combine technical analysis, techno-economic modelling and strategic assessment to help identify pathways that can contribute to the long-term supply of rLG for SHV Energy’s global business units.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Evaluation
- Support the evaluation of technologies for renewable liquid gas (rLG) production
- Review technical reports and process information from technology providers
- Analyse key performance indicators such as yields, energy use and production costs
- Compare different technology pathways and identify potential improvement opportunities
Techno-Economic Analysis
- Support the development of techno-economic models for rLG production pathways
- Analyse production costs and key economic drivers
- Perform sensitivity analyses on key assumptions such as feedstock and energy prices
- Support the preparation of business cases for new technologies
Renewable Propane Assessment
- Explore pathways for the production of renewable propane
- Conduct literature reviews and technology benchmarking
- Evaluate feedstocks, technologies and market opportunities
- Assess the technical and commercial potential of different production routes
Market & Strategic Analysis
- Work with Commercial and Policy teams to evaluate market opportunities for rLG
- Collect and analyse technical, commercial and regulatory data
- Prepare reports, recommendations and presentations for management
- Support investment and project evaluation activities
What You Bring
- You are an MSc student in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a related field
- You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- You have an interest in renewable fuels, the energy transition and sustainable technologies
- You have experience with Excel, data analysis and process simulation tools, such as DWSIM or COCO Simulator
- You have good communication skills in English
