We’re looking for a Legal Engineer to join our Product team in Copenhagen. Someone with a strong legal foundation who is excited about AI, technology, and finding better ways to do legal work. You’ll get hands-on with our product, work on real legal problems, and help us build AI-powered tools that lawyers can actually rely on.
About Pandektes
Legal research hasn’t changed much in decades. Lawyers still spend countless hours navigating fragmented sources, outdated systems, and complex databases just to find the information they need.
At Pandektes, we’re changing that.
Our ambition is to build the leading global platform for legal research and the largest AI-powered legal database. By combining artificial intelligence, intelligent search, and continuously updated legal sources, we’re redefining how legal knowledge is accessed, understood, analyzed, and applied.
Pandektes has raised more than €4 million and most recently closed a €2.9 million seed round (Feb 2025) led by People Ventures, Interface Capital, and leading angels. Pandektes already serves more than 400 customers across Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.
We’re still early in the journey, and joining our team now means you’ll have big impact on shaping how we scale.
About the role
As a Legal Engineer, you'll sit at the intersection of law, AI, and product. You'll join our Product team and work closely with Engineering, Customer Success, and Sales.
This is a hands-on role: rather than practising law, you'll use your legal expertise to evaluate AI-generated legal work, figure out where and why it falls short, and turn real legal problems into scalable AI-powered workflows. It's a good fit if you like getting deep into legal detail but also enjoy stepping back to ask why something works and how it could work better.
What you'll do
- Evaluate and improve legal AI quality: test AI-generated legal research and analysis for correctness, completeness, reasoning, and source selection. Investigate where outputs fall short and turn findings into actionable input for Product and Engineering.
- Turn legal problems into AI-powered workflows: break down how lawyers actually perform a task, define what a good outcome looks like, and help develop, test, and refine workflows that solve it at scale.
- Bring UK legal expertise into product development: apply your knowledge of UK law, legal sources, and lawyer workflows to how we evaluate and build our products.
- Work on complex customer problems: partner with Customer Success and Sales on cases needing deeper legal expertise — understand the underlying problem, shape practical solutions, and feed what you learn back into Product.
- Help lawyers work effectively with AI: build workflows and examples that help customers get real value from AI in their legal work, and flag recurring needs that could inform future product decisions.
What you’ll bring
We’re primarily looking for strong legal expertise and judgement. You don’t need a background in engineering, AI, or product development — those are things you can develop in the role.
- Advanced legal education or professional legal qualification, with a strong foundation in UK law gained through your education and/or professional training. You should be able to independently research, analyse, and assess UK complex and abstract legal questions.
- A couple ofyears of hands-on legal experience from a law firm, in-house legal team, public institution, or comparable legal environment.
- Strong experience with legal research and analysis, and the ability to work independently with complex legal questions and source material.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to assess the quality of legal work, identify weaknesses or unsupported conclusions, and explain clearly what could be improved.
Nice to have
You don’t need to tick every box below. These are a plus, not requirements:
- Hands-on experience using AI tools for legal work, such as legal research, drafting, contract analysis, or document review.
- Familiarity with prompting, LLM evaluations, or systematically testing AI-generated outputs.
- Experience with document-heavy or structured legal workflows, such as due diligence, contract review, regulatory analysis, or multi-jurisdictional research.
- Experience working directly with clients or business stakeholders and translating complex legal needs into practical solutions.
- Exposure to product development, user testing, or workflow design.
- Experience working across multiple jurisdictions or legal systems, particularly both common-law and civil-law systems.
- Basic technical or data literacy, such as structured data, APIs, advanced spreadsheets, or simple scripting.
- Additional language skills beyond English.
