About Stark
Stark builds the world’s most powerful electric motorcycles. From the VARG MX to the road-legal VARG EX & SM, our bikes have won world championships and are engineered to outperform anything with a combustion engine.
We’re based in Sant Boi, Barcelona, growing fast (77% year-on-year), and building a team that will take us even further. If you want to work on a product that people are genuinely obsessed with, this is it.
Stark will become the global market leader in premium motorcycles. Building premium motorcycles requires innovation and we need your help to make us succeed
Our mission is to lead the way towards a sustainable motorcycle industry, by reducing plastic and CO2 pollution.
This will be achieved by building sustainable products that are superior to traditional technology in terms of Performance, Emotion and Design.
The Role
We are looking for a Prototype Engineer – Powertrain Assembly to join our growing “Process Development” team, reporting to the Head of Process Development Production. As a prototype engineer you will be responsible to define and plan assemblies of batteries, motors and inverters in time. You’ll be at the forefront of the creation of next-generation electric motorcycles, batteries and associated products.
You’ll be responsible for defining the build-up specification (including sensors), planning the build-up with engineering and workshop, and clarifying upcoming questions and taking decisions. As a prototype engineer you make sure that the mechanical design intent gets reality in the build-up, and that feedback and learnings from the build-ups are implemented in future designs. You’ll need to have hands-on experience, the will to move things fast, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving, and highly innovative environment.
What You’ll Do
- Be the technical lead in defining and planning all powertrain prototype assemblies, making sure the build-up takes place in an efficient way
- Provide and define measurement plans (temperature & pressure sensors, etc.)
- Plan build-up configuration and provide assembly instructions
- Make sure the build-up works in an efficient way, including parts availability
- Be the bridge between engineering and the prototype workshop, ensuring that learnings and feedback from the build-ups are implemented in future designs
- Provide transparency about the build-up in terms of specification, time and open points
- Set requirements for parts and processes that are gathered from the assembly
- Make sure that the feedback from the prototype build-up is transferred into the series production line
- Plan and assure that targets are achieved in time within the expected quality and costs
- Plan and support validation and testing activities (internal/external) on battery-related assemblies
- Ensure the workshop operations are safe, and materials are stocked and handled appropriately
- Maintain control plans and build history for all battery systems, ensuring all the special characteristics (special and critical) are tracked and maintained over time
What you will bring to Stark
- Mechanical Engineering degree or similar
- Deep experience in prototype build-ups of high voltage batteries, motors and inverters is a plus
- Experience in related measurement equipment and assembly processes is a plus
- Experience in building up first prototype batteries from scratch to series production
- Experience in defining, planning and organizing assemblies
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, ever-evolving, highly innovative environment (startups or high-tech companies)
- High standards for yourself and everyone you work with, constantly looking for ways to innovate and improve product performance, quality and cost
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; basic English is a must and Spanish is beneficial
Why work with us?
- The chance to work on a product people are genuinely passionate about
- A fast-growing company with real momentum
- A creative, international team based in Barcelona
- Competitive salary and benefits package
- Direct access to riders, race teams, and the product — this is not a remote-from-the-product role
- Subsidized lunch in our in house restaurant
- Free access to our in-house gym (including weekends!)
- 30 days of paid vacation
