Amentum is seeking a Food Service Worker to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Food Service Worker will be responsible for supporting daily food service operations by preparing, presenting, and serving food in a cafeteria, delicatessen, or bakery environment. This position assists with food preparation, customer service, sanitation, stocking, and cashiering while maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety, and cleanliness.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare, assemble, and serve a variety of hot and cold food items, including sandwiches, salads, fruit and vegetable trays, bakery items, specialty meats, cheeses, and delicatessen products.
- Assist with the preparation, cooking, and decorating of breads, rolls, pastries, cakes, and other baked goods as directed.
- Follow standardized recipes, portion control guidelines, and food preparation procedures to ensure consistency and quality.
- Weigh, price, wrap, package, and label food items for display and customer purchase.
- Prepare food displays in serving counters, display cases, and self service areas.
- Greet customers, answer questions regarding menu items and specialty foods, and provide courteous, professional customer service.
- Take and process customer orders including special requests, and accurately handle cash and electronic payment transactions.
- Receive, unload, inspect, and properly store food products and supplies following inventory control and food safety procedures.
- Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, serving stations, kitchen equipment, utensils, dishes, trays, and work surfaces.
- Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, personal hygiene, and health regulations.
- Assist with routine kitchen operations, including ingredient preparation, measuring, mixing, slicing, and portioning food items.
- Support team members during peak meal periods to ensure efficient service and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate records and complete assigned cleaning and operational checklists.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in food service, hospitality, cafeteria, restaurant, bakery, or institutional food service.
- Knowledge of proper food handling, sanitation, and safe food preparation practices.
- Ability to read and follow standardized recipes and written instructions.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment while multi-tasking.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
- Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce
- A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle.
- ServSafe Food Handler or ServSafe Manager Certification.
- Previous experience as a food service worker, cook, baker, busser, dishwasher, waiter/server, or in a related hospitality position.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and customer service skills.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
