Amentum is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator (DRC) to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator (DRC) is responsible for operating, overseeing, and performing preventative maintenance under general supervision on Water Treatment Plants.
Job Responsibilities:
- Operates and performs preventative maintenance on small conventional rapid sand filter plant and reverse osmosis system under general supervision on rotating shifts, as needed.
- Adjusts chemical doses in response to changing water quality parameters, accurately keeps operating records, and adjusts plant processes.
- Collects water samples and accurately performs routine chlorine, turbidity and coliform analysis.
- Performs bacteria testing utilizing the Colilert System.
- Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs to water plant equipment including, but not limited to, chemical injection pumps and analytical equipment.
- Learns and adheres to all water quality regulations and company policies.
- Assists maintenance staffs identify and repair major mechanical problems.
- Cleans and organizes the plant, keeps the process running smoothly, rotates shifts, may be the sole operator on shift, utilizes time effectively and efficiently, and is alert and responsible to anticipate problems.
- Plans and executes all work in a safe manor at all times.
- Orients new employees to the plant and leads and mentors less experienced personnel.
- Keeps supervisor apprised of work situations and problems encountered.
- Adheres to Company safety policies, procedures, and programs.
Required to comply with all occupational safety and health standards, rules, and orders applicable to their actions and conduct. The role demands consistent, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proactive reporting of workplace hazards, and total adherence to safety protocols to maintain a zero-injury environment.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Required Qualifications:
- Must have at least five years of work experience in the operations and maintenance of facultative stabilization ponds/aerated treatment ponds and completed courses in wastewater system operations and maintenance.
- Must have at least a valid and current wastewater grade II or III operator license in any states or territories of the United States.
- The wastewater operator license can be substituted with at least five years’ work experience in wastewater plant operations, a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial or Environmental Engineering, Chemistry or related sciences from an accredited university or college, and training in the following subjects:
- basic wastewater treatment plant design;
- wastewater treatment plant operations;
- basic maintenance/calibration of plant controls & equipment;
- wastewater treatment principles;
- wastewater sampling and analysis; and
- wastewater plant/systems documentation & reporting requirements.

- Must be able to speak, read, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport should be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
- Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
