Project assistant in infrastructure transitions and economic geography

Description of the workplace

The position is based at the Department of Human Geography. You will work in the research project CATS (Beyond herding cats: integrating research on infrastructure transitions across project boundaries), funded by the Crafoord Foundation and running 2026–2027. CATS connects several ongoing research projects on how infrastructure for water, sanitation, food, mobility and waste is becoming more decentralised, with researchers at Lund University and international partners. The project facilitates exchange and communicates the results to researchers, policymakers and the wider public.

You will work closely with the project leader and be based at Geocentrum I in Lund, together with the department's roughly 60 staff. You will also be affiliated with CIRCLE, the Centre for Innovation Research at Lund University (www.circle.lu.se), an interdisciplinary research environment with a large national and international network.

Work duties and areas of responsibility

As project assistant you coordinate the day-to-day work of CATS and support the project leader and the research group. The tasks are partly administrative, partly research-related.

Administration and communication

• plan and run workshops, seminars and other events, including travel bookings and practical arrangements
• update the website and social media, and produce newsletters
• assist with material for financial follow-up and reporting
• ongoing project administration, such as meeting notes, document management and contact with partners

Research support

• literature searches and overviews of the state of research
• collecting, sorting, transcribing and documenting data, such as interviews and documents
• analysis of qualitative and/or quantitative material
• contributing to reports, presentations, applications and other texts

The balance between tasks varies over time and is adapted to the needs of the project and your experience. The work requires regular presence at the department in Lund. Some travel within Sweden and Europe may occur.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

• You have a bachelor's degree in the social sciences or another field relevant to the position, or are in the final stage of such a degree.
• You have good knowledge of English, spoken and written.
• You have experience of searching and compiling literature and of working with qualitative or quantitative material, for example from thesis work.
• You have good analytical skills.
• You are well organised and independent, and able to plan and prioritise your work.
• You have good collaboration skills.

Additional merits for the position are:

• You hold or are studying towards a master's degree in human geography, economic geography, innovation studies, political science, sociology or a related subject.
• You have experience of administrative work, such as organising events, working with websites and social media, or preparing simple financial summaries.
• You are interested in research on sustainability transitions or infrastructure.
• You have good knowledge of Swedish.

Other

The employment is a fixed-term employment (special fixed-term employment) for one year at 50–100 per cent, by agreement. Start as soon as possible or as agreed. The Department of Human Geography (Institutionen för kulturgeografi och ekonomisk geografi) at Lund University is a research-intensive academic unit within the Faculty of Social Sciences.
