Senior Cloud Engineer
Luscii · Utrecht, Netherlands
You apply on the site where the job is posted. I never handle applications.
At Luscii, we are creating space for care by working on multiple applications to help people manage their health. Together with healthcare professionals around the world, we build technology that helps patients receive the right care in the right place. Millions of people rely on our products every month, and behind every reliable healthcare experience is an engineering platform that simply works. As our Senior Cloud Engineer, you will play a vital role in modernising the cloud platform that powers OMRON Connect, helping us build a more reliable, scalable and future-proof foundation for millions of users worldwide.
OMRON Connect is one of the largest digital health platforms in our ecosystem, connecting millions of users with their healthcare data through OMRON devices. Much of the platform has grown over many years and was originally built by external partners. Today, we're investing heavily in bringing that knowledge, ownership and technical excellence in-house. This is not about replacing everything overnight. It is about making thoughtful engineering decisions, modernising step by step, and creating a cloud platform that enables teams to deliver safely, confidently and independently.
Your work will have a direct impact on the reliability, scalability and cost-efficiency of a platform serving around three million monthly active users across the world. You will help shape our engineering standards, introduce modern cloud practices where they truly add value, and make Infrastructure as Code, observability and safe continuous delivery the default rather than the exception. Along the way, you will collaborate with engineers, influence technical direction and leave the platform in a significantly better state than you found it on your first day at the job.
This is a role for someone who enjoys solving difficult engineering problems without chasing complexity for complexity's sake. You are going to help us balance innovation with pragmatism, modernising a live healthcare platform while maintaining the stability that patients and healthcare professionals depend on every day.
Your role
You will become one of the technical driving forces behind the cloud platform powering OMRON Connect. Rather than owning a single product or service, you will help build the foundations that every engineering team relies on. Working closely with backend engineers, product teams and colleagues in Japan, you are goint to evolve our AWS platform, improve the developer experience and ensure reliability, security and scalability are built into everything we do.
What you will be doing, among others:
- Design, build and evolve our AWS platform using Terraform as the single source of truth, while driving the gradual modernisation of our cloud landscape;
- Build reusable infrastructure, deployment pipelines and platform tooling that enable engineering teams to ship independently and safely;
- Introduce pragmatic cloud-native and event-driven solutions where they genuinely improve scalability, reliability and maintainability;
- Make observability a default through standardised monitoring, logging, dashboards and alerting across the platform;
- Improve deployment practices with automated CI/CD, progressive delivery and reliable rollback strategies;
- Embed security, compliance and cost optimisation into the platform through automated guardrails and best practices;
- Coach fellow engineers, review infrastructure and application code, and raise the overall cloud engineering bar through collaboration and example.
The responsibilities outlined above reflect how we currently envision this role. As we continue to grow and evolve, the scope and focus of the position may naturally change, influenced by your own ideas and insights. The way we work is built around the belief that everyone's input matters. If you see opportunities to improve the way we do things, or believe a process could be designed differently to achieve a better outcome, we encourage you to bring those ideas forward. Discuss them with your teammates, challenge the status quo, and help shape how we move forward together.

The ideal candidate…
… probably doesn't exist, but if you can tick most of the checkboxes below, please apply! We are looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership of complex technical challenges, makes pragmatic engineering decisions, and is excited about helping others succeed along the way.
You know when to step up, when to involve colleagues and when to move forward decisively. Working independently does not mean working in isolation for you. You feel at ease being both a self-starter and a committed team player, contributing to shared goals while taking responsibility for your own domain. You value open communication, transparency, and mutual trust.
- You have at least 6 years of experience building and operating large-scale cloud platforms, with deep hands-on AWS expertise and including the same amount of experience in senior-level ownership of modern cloud architectures;
- You have extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and treat infrastructure with the same rigour as application code;
- You have a strong understanding of cloud-native, serverless and event-driven architectures, and the judgement to apply them pragmatically;
- You know how to build reliable production systems with observability, automated deployments and safe release practices built in;
- You enjoy modernising legacy platforms through incremental improvements rather than big-bang rewrites, while bringing others along in the process;
- You have strong backend engineering experience, preferably with Node.js and TypeScript;
- You are open to working in a Holacratic organization and curious about our way of organizing work, roles, and responsibilities;
- English is our primary language for all internal communication at Luscii, so you're fluent in that language.
