Amentum is seeking an Appliance Mechanic to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Appliance Mechanic will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and overall operational readiness of commercial and industrial food service equipment and related systems. This position oversees maintenance operations, ensures compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements, manages preventive maintenance programs, and provides technical leadership to maintenance personnel.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervise maintenance operations for assigned commercial and industrial food service equipment in accordance with contract requirements, company policies, and military regulations.
- Provide leadership and oversight to maintenance personnel, including scheduling, performance management, coaching, training, disciplinary actions, and vacation planning.
- Establish maintenance priorities, schedule repairs, and estimate equipment downtime to ensure efficient workflow and operational readiness.
- Coordinate repairs for equipment awaiting parts to minimize maintenance backlog, reduce downtime, and control costs.
- Perform advanced installation, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on commercial food service appliances, refrigeration equipment, HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, and mechanical equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair commercial cooking equipment and associated utility systems.
- Develop, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance programs to maximize equipment performance and lifespan.
- Manage inventory levels of replacement parts, tools, and maintenance supplies while forecasting future inventory requirements.
- Oversee and approve contractor work to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Provide technical support and customer service to internal and external stakeholders while tracking equipment performance, maintenance efficiency, and cost avoidance initiatives.
- Prepare and submit require maintenance reports, activity reports, and documentation accurately and within established deadlines.
- Maintain effective communication with management, customers, contractors, and maintenance personnel regarding maintenance activities and operational status.
- Coordinate the collection and preparation of operational and maintenance reports.
- Promote and enforce workplace safety policies while ensuring compliance with applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct site visits to establish and maintain professional relationships with maintenance teams, site personnel, and customer representatives.
- Monitor employee development and ensure performance evaluations are completed in accordance with company policy.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of directly related work experience may substitute for each year of college education.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a maintenance supervisory or lead maintenance role preferred.
- Experience repairing and maintaining commercial food service equipment, refrigeration systems, HVAC systems, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- EPA Refrigerant Certification required.
- Commercial Appliance Repair Certification required.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
- Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce
- A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
