Work Location The Hague - Netherlands Expected duration 3-6 months Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Head of Archives, indexing and distribution Division, the intern will: 1. Review archival files and identify their contents, dates, creators, subjects and relationships with other records. 2. Processing physical records, including digitization of historic and fragile records. 3. Assist with the preparation or improvement of archival inventories, finding aids and file descriptions. 4. Enter, review and standardize metadata in archival inventories, SharePoint libraries or other records management systems. 5. Apply quality control to digital records such as, identification of duplicate, incomplete or incorrectly classified records; ensuring metadata is accurate. 6. Assist with the preparation of reference information concerning the PCIJ collections. 7. Handle all records in accordance with applicable confidentiality, security and preservation requirements. 8. Support the review of records transferred to the Archives by organizational divisions and offices. 9. Carry out other archives and records management duties as assigned. 10. Expected outputs The intern will be expected to contribute to: • Structured and accurately described PCIJ archival files; • Updated archival inventories and finding aids; • Improved metadata in archival and records management systems; • Contribute to appraisal decisions of physical and digital records. • Brief progress reports describing completed work and outstanding issues. Qualifications/special skills Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: Be enrolled in the final year of a first university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent); Be enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. programme, or equivalent; or Have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. degree, or equivalent. For this internship, academic background and/or demonstrated knowledge in information, archives and records management is required. Preference will be given to candidates who are currently enrolled in, or have recently completed, a degree in one of the following fields: Archives and Records Management; Information Management; Library and Information Science; Law; International Relations; History; or Another related field. Information Technology Skills Applicants should have good knowledge of standard office software applications. Familiarity with SharePoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Teams is particularly desirable. Languages English and French are the working languages of the International Court of Justice. A UN Level III in either French or English is required. Passive knowledge of the other language, French or English, UN Level II is required. Additional Information Not available.
