Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC) is a leading international centre in sustainability science at Stockholm University. The Centre advances scientific understanding of the dynamic interactions between people and nature in the biosphere, trains the next generation of sustainability researchers and leaders, and engages in collaborations with change agents. It is a joint initiative between Stockholm University and the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. The SRC currently employs around 165 members of staff.

Main responsibilities

The position is associated with the EU Horizon Europe project SEADOTs and Biodiversa+ UrbanOcean and will involve the following tasks:

Contribute to the continued development, extension, and documentation of an agent-based model (ABM) of Baltic Sea fisheries, including fleet behaviour and fish population dynamics under alternative policy scenarios
Analyze relevant Baltic Sea environmental, fisheries (e.g., AIS vessel tracking data, fisher logbook records, ICES stock assessment products, and HELCOM spatial datasets) and socioeconomic data ensuring compliance with FAIR data standards, for integration into the ABM and onto the EDITO platform.
Analyze and visualize model outputs and empirical datasets for project deliverables, scientific publications, and stakeholder communication.
Support engagement with experts and other stakeholders to validate model assumptions and outputs.
Contribute to writing scientific reports and research articles.

Qualification requirements

We are looking for a candidate with previous experience working with fisheries in the Baltic Sea and agent-based modelling.

Required:

A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as sustainability science, marine/fisheries science, environmental science, or a related discipline
Demonstrated experience with agent-based modelling, ideally using NetLogo.
Experience in working with spatial data and GIS-tools (QGIS or similar GIS software)
Proficiency in R for statistical analysis and data visualisation
You must have the ability to write scientific texts in English and possess strong communication and collaborative skills.

Desirable:

Familiarity with European Digital Twin Ocean and EMODnet data submission processes and FAIR data principles.
Previous experience from EU-funded or other international research projects.
Familiarity with Baltic Sea environment and fisheries.
Project management experience.
Working knowledge of Swedish.

About the employment

The position is a 60 % temporary position for eleven months. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. The starting date is subject to agreement.
