At SATCUBE, we build the satellite terminals that keep communication alive when nothing else works - for military operations, civil defence, and disaster response across Europe. No downtime. No compromise.

We don't buy in black-box components and stitch them together. We design our own hardware and software end to end - from the antenna system, through secure boot and the Linux/RTOS stack, all the way to the application layer our operators depend on in the field. The team is small enough that everyone's fingerprints are on the final product: your kernel patch, your driver, your security decision ends up in a terminal deployed somewhere it actually matters.

We're looking for an experienced embedded systems developer ready to also step into a tech lead role for a team of 7 engineers - someone who wants deep technical ownership and the chance to shape how a team works, reporting into and working closely with our CTO.

Key Responsibilities

You'll work across the full stack we own - from bootloader to application software to the update pipeline that keeps devices secure in the field - with the autonomy to make real architectural decisions.

  • Design and maintain our Yocto-based Linux distribution for ARM devices - kernel, user-space, and bootloader
  • Develop and maintain device tree configurations and drivers, integrating a wide range of peripherals and hardware interfaces.
  • Develop real-time applications that run on dedicated microcontrollers using Zephyr RTOS, and implement the interface with the Linux system.
  • Design and develop the application software layer using Rust.
  • Implement and maintain OTA update infrastructure - safe updates, rollback mechanisms, long-term maintainability of devices in the field.
  • Design and maintain the boot chain and secure boot architecture, ensuring trusted firmware execution and reliable device startup.
  • Design, implement, and operate CI/CD pipelines for firmware build, test, and release.
  • Troubleshoot system-level issues across hardware, kernel, and OS layers.
  • Design and maintain the assembly-line flashing and provisioning system - automated firmware flashing, device identity provisioning, factory diagnostics.
  • Work closely with the CTO to prioritize roadmaps and lead the team's technical direction.
  • Work closely with hardware engineers on board bring-up, hardware validation, and debugging.

Required Qualifications

  • B.Sc. / M.Sc. Computer Science or comparable
  • Extensive experience working with embedded architectures, including cross-compilation, debugging, and performance optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of Yocto, the Linux kernel, embedded device drivers, device tree configuration and u-boot.
  • Experience with real-time systems and RTOS (e.g. Zephyr).
  • Strong experience in Rust and/or C.
  • Experience with GNU tools, Debian/Ubuntu-based systems, systemd and Docker.
  • Knowledge of OTA updates (e.g. ostree).
  • Solid networking fundamentals - IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS, VPNs, and hardware-layer interfaces
  • Strong embedded security knowledge, such as secure boot on embedded devices, boot chain verification, and encryption mechanisms.
  • Experience with low-level communication interfaces, such as I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN bus.
  • A product-oriented mindset, with an eagerness to drive forward project initiatives
  • Knowledge of the latest software architecture principles and practices in embedded software

It would be beneficial if you also have

  • Experience with NXP i.MX8 platforms and their associated BSP packages
  • Previous contributions to open-source projects, especially in the Linux ecosystem.
  • Experience with Cl/CD systems, such as Jenkins, GitHub actions, GitLab Cl.

Who we think you are

We believe that you are a go-to-person in the team where you work today or have worked previously. Your colleagues always trust you to come with additional perspectives on problems and you tend to be the leader of the technical challenges.

You communicate easily with people with different experience and background and handle giving and receiving personal feedback already but wish to develop your leadership skills further.

You communicate fluently in English. Swedish is a bonus, not a requirement.
