The Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology (Fraunhofer SIT) is one of Germany's and Europe's leading research and development institutions in cybersecurity. To strengthen our newly established Artificial Intelligence and Security (AIS) department, we are looking for a Research Scientist to join our team as soon as possible. In this role, you will contribute to exciting research projects with a focus on the development and application of computer vision technologies.

Be part of change

  • Conduct research and development in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)
  • Design, implement, and evaluate AI-based methods, with a particular focus on Natural Language Processing (NLP)
  • Investigate, apply, and advance state-of-the-art NLP techniques, including Generative AI, AI agents, and deep learning
  • Analyze and evaluate AI systems with respect to security, robustness, and trustworthy deployment
  • Contribute to publicly funded research projects as well as collaborative projects with industry partners
  • Prepare scientific documentation, project reports, and research publications
  • Present and discuss research findings at national and international conferences, workshops, and other scientific events

What you contribute

  • A completed degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field with a focus on Machine Learning, particularly Natural Language Processing (NLP)
  • Strong knowledge of machine learning and deep learning
  • Familiarity with common neural network architectures, including Transformers, 1D Convolutional Neural Networks (1D CNNs), and related models
  • Solid understanding of fundamental machine learning concepts such as classification, regression, hyperparameter optimization, fine-tuning, debiasing, and AI model evaluation
  • Knowledge of and practical experience in cybersecurity is an advantage
  • A strong willingness to take on new challenges and continuously expand your expertise
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
