Intern (m/f/d) Software Engineering & Aeroacoustics Research
Dassault Systèmes · Vaihingen (Stuttgart), Germany
You apply off-site, with the employer or the job board. I never handle applications.
The Aeroacoustics team within the SIMULIA/R&D/FLUIDS unit is looking for an intern to help advance our physical modeling capabilities. Our team develops and validates methodologies for predicting aerodynamic sound generation and radiation, primarily focusing on two software packages: PowerFLOW (for transient, scale-resolved flow simulations) and OptydB (our team-developed tool for pre- and post-processing). We also build automated workflows for specialized applications, including wind turbine, EVTOL/rotorcraft, and turbofan/acoustic liner noise simulations.
In this targeted internship, you will benchmark a high-order Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) schemes, specifically evaluating a GPU-based implementation, to build a referential framework for next-generation LBM solver architectures.
Role Description & Responsibilities
- Benchmark high-Mach LBM schemes.
- Test and evaluate GPU implementation of LBM solvers.
- Collaborate & Document: Work closely with the SIMULIA aeroacoustics team to build reference datasets and integrate research insights into solver development roadmaps.
Qualifications
- Academic Background: Currently pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
- LBM & CFD Expertise: Solid understanding of Fluid Mechanics, Aeroacoustics, and advanced Lattice Boltzmann Methods (specifically high-Mach LBM formulation).
- GPU & Software Skills: Hands-on experience developing or testing GPU-accelerated CFD code (e.g., CUDA, C++).
- Problem-Solving & Analytical Mindset: Ability to design systematic test cases, analyze dissipation/stability behaviors, and draw actionable research conclusions.
- Communication: Strong technical communication skills in written and spoken English.
What's in it for you
- You get a deep insight into an international software company
- You get the possibility to network with internal and external stakeholders
- You can finally apply what you learned in your studies in practice
