3-year Postdoctoral Position in CRISPR-Based Genome Editing MDxCore, Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Rigshospitalet

Applications are invited for a full-time, 3-year postdoctoral position in CRISPR-based genome editing, with a preferred starting date of 1 October 2026.

The Research Group

The project will be conducted in the research group led by Chief Physician Maria Rossing at MDxCore, Rigshospitalet, and is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Our group consists of six dedicated researchers working within genomic medicine and translational research. We offer a collaborative research environment and excellent facilities in modern laboratories at Rigshospitalet.

Project Details

CRISPR-based genome editing offers the potential to correct disease-causing genetic variants at their source. Recent clinical successes demonstrate that precise, patient-specific genome editing is feasible, but such approaches remain exceptional and have not yet been translated into systematic therapeutic pipelines for rare disorders. This project aims to develop a patient-tailored CRISPR-based therapy for Glanzmann thrombasthenia, a severe inherited bleeding disorder caused by defects in platelet integrin αIIbβ3. Focusing on pathogenic patient variants in the ITGA2B gene, we will establish a translational workflow spanning characterization of the genetic defect, development of relevant cellular models, optimization of genome-editing strategies, and assessment of functional rescue and editing safety. The most promising strategy will be evaluated in hematopoietic stem cells and preclinical models to assess efficacy, durability, and safety. The project will thereby establish a framework for translating individualized genome editing into potential therapies for rare genetic disorders.

Requirements

We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious scientist with the following qualifications:

• A PhD in Medicine, Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related field, completed before the application deadline
• Strong experience in CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing and molecular and cell biology
• Experience with cell culture and relevant molecular and biochemical techniques
• A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary research team
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
• A strong interest in translational research and the development of novel genome-editing therapies

Place of Employment

The position is based in the Rossing Research Group at MDxCore, Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Rigshospitalet – Copenhagen University Hospital, Copenhagen, Denmark. Rigshospitalet is one of Denmark's leading university hospitals and is located centrally in Copenhagen.

Terms of Employment

The position is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for three years. The average working week is 37 hours. Salary, pension, and other terms of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement for Academics Employed in the Danish Regions (Akademiker-overenskomsten) and the relevant organizational agreement.
