The Mechanical Engineer applies fundamental concepts to gather and analyze data in support of specialists and managers, contributing to the design, review, and supervision of mechanical engineering aspects of projects. This role involves interpreting basic rules and procedures, making initial recommendations based on straightforward analysis, and preparing inputs for reports and other documents, thereby providing the first level of "thought leadership" in the mechanical engineering domain

1. Technical Support and Design Review
Coordinate and supervise the installation of mechanical systems associated with potable water supply and irrigation infrastructure, including pumps, pumping equipment, pipework, valves and associated mechanical components.
Assist the project team and logistics division in the procurement of mechanical machinery and equipment.
Design and review mechanical installations associated with potable water supply and irrigation infrastructure, including pumps and pumping systems, borehole mechanical equipment, pipework, valves, fittings and associated mechanical systems.
Design and review mechanical installations and services in buildings, including Ventilations, fire fighting & safety, Air Conditioning, HVAC and ducting systems, Hot and Cold Water, sanitary drainage, medical gas, and waste management mechanical systems.
Assist the contract division in preparing and evaluating tender documents for mechanical/plumbing engineering services (technical specifications, BOQs, equipment data sheets, rates, cost estimates, test requirements, etc.).
Design and produce mechanical and plumbing systems design calculations, equipment selection, drawings, and scope of works.
Review pump sizing and selection, operating requirements and technical data to ensure compatibility with the relevant civil and electrical systems.
Review the design of mechanical and plumbing services of projects.
Review and approve Submittals of Technical Material and Shop Drawings submitted by the Contractors for mechanical and plumbing services of projects.
Assist in testing, commissioning, training, performance verification, training and handover of mechanical and plumbing deliverables to clients/beneficiaries
2. Project Assessment and Quality Assurance
Support the project team in reviewing design briefs and design reports that address specific clients and stakeholder requirements and specifications as and when necessary.
Support the project team in reviewing design documentation (e.g., drawings, BOQ, and specifications) to meet the required quality and detailing as stipulated by the Project Manager.
Work closely with different project team members during the planning phase, particularly in reviewing the assessment report and design brief summarizing the scope of work fulfilling the needs of the beneficiary, scheduling tasks, and developing an integrated design.
Review the design documents assuring that they meet the quality standard requirements.
Timely deliver the expected outputs.
Contribute to the design review services meeting the Client’s Design requirement and support the project team in QA/QC relevant activities to assure that the relevant sections in the design comply with international standards and codes of practices.
Join the project team during site inspections and assessments as required and review the assessment reports only when required
3. Software and Administrative Support
Has the capacity and experience in using drafting software such as Autodesk – AutoCAD and Revit.
Has the capacity and experience to use standard mechanical & plumbing engineering systems design software.
Assist in mechanical and plumbing engineering related material archiving.
Assist in scheduling requested tasks related to mechanical works.
Perform any other tasks relevant to the Infrastructure and Engineering Unit when required
4. WASH and Pump supervision
Review and assess mechanical and hydraulic design for water systems, including pumping stations, boreholes, and transmission lines, ensure compliance with project requirements and international standard.
Supervise the installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical equipment for water supply and irrigation systems, including pumps, valves, piping systems and related mechanical components.
Supervise the approved Bills of Quantities (BOQs), technical specifications, and material submittals for mechanical components related to water and sanitation infrastructure, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Other related tasks at the request of the UNOPS lesion senior officer
5. Administrative and Documentation Tasks
Contribute to the archiving and management of design and engineering documentation for mechanical systems.
Contribute to maintaining organized records, ensuring timely scheduling and tracking of project tasks.
Prepare inputs for periodic progress reports, highlighting work achievements, challenges, and recommendations.

At least 2 years of experience in Mechanical, firefighting, and Plumbing systems design, supervision and construction for medium to large scale construction projects is required.
At least two years of working experience in project assessment, design and supervision experience in rehabilitation projects/ construction projects is required.
Excellent skills in drafting using Autocad are required.
High proficiency in working on HAP software is required.
High proficiency in dealing with computers, and other software/ platforms related to the position's field of expertise.
Desired
Work Experience with an international Organization and/or UN Agencies is an asset.
Good experience in working with the G-Suite platform including, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Gmail, Google Sheets, Docs, and Slides is an asset.
Experience with pumps, pumping stations, boreholes, potable water supply, irrigation systems or similar infrastructure is highly desirable.
