**Location:**Humlebæk, DK Job Family: Research & Development Country/Region: Denmark
Would you like to use polymer and materials science to develop medical devices that make a real difference for people with intimate healthcare needs?
Working with scientists, engineers and project managers, you will help develop and implement material solutions from selection and testing through to implementation in the product.
“We are driven by the ambition to identify and develop state-of-the-art polymer materials that enable outstanding product performance and create real value for our users. You will become part of a highly skilled team that shares knowledge and explores new ideas. If you are curious and eager to learn, you will have plenty of opportunities to take responsibility, develop your expertise and make a tangible impact,” says Marianne Lund Dalsgaard, Head of BC & CC Materials.
Welcome to BC & CC Materials
At our headquarters in Humlebæk, Denmark, you will join BC & CC Materials, the Product Development materials team supporting Bowel Care and Continence Care. The team combines different professional backgrounds and experience levels, enabling us to approach material challenges from several perspectives and challenge technical assumptions constructively.
Material choices influence how a product performs, how robustly it can be produced and what it costs to manufacture. Materials therefore have an important role in connecting product needs with technical and practical solutions.
Develop and characterise materials for future medical devices
As our new Material Scientist, your main responsibility will be to plan and deliver material-related activities in Product Development projects across Bowel Care and Continence Care. You will investigate, select and characterise polymer materials, interpret data and document their properties and performance. Your material expertise will help guide important decisions throughout development and ensure that material solutions meet user needs, support robust product performance and take appropriate account of manufacturability.
You will work across Product Development and with Manufacturing Development, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Procurement and Marketing. You will own your material-related activities and deliver clear, scientifical conclusions and recommendations.
More specifically, you will:
- Plan and deliver material-related activities in Product Development projects, identifying material risks early
- Investigate, select and characterise polymer materials for new and existing products
- Translate user, product and performance needs into relevant material requirements and specifications
- Plan material testing and focus evidence on the decisions needed to progress the project, in close collaboration with laboratory technicians
- Recommend material solutions by balancing product performance and manufacturability, informed by how material variability and processing conditions affect product quality and production stability
- Document technical conclusions and contribute material expertise to risk assessments, verification planning, specifications and design documentation
“This is a great opportunity to turn your material expertise into solutions that make a real difference to people. In BC & CC Materials, you will join an experienced and supportive team that works closely together to solve complex material challenges. You will be trusted with responsibility for your own deliverables while having strong specialists around you to help you learn and grow,” says Marianne Lund Dalsgaard, Head of BC & CC Materials.
A material specialist with scientific judgement and strong collaboration skills
You have a solid foundation in polymer chemistry or applied materials science and enjoy applying it to product development challenges. You can turn detailed analysis into clear recommendations, explain material trade-offs and challenge unclear assumptions constructively.
We expect you to take ownership, communicate clearly and understand how material decisions affect the product beyond the laboratory.
We imagine that you:
- Hold an MSc in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science or a related field, preferably with a specialisation in polymers
- Have experience with applied materials science, polymer chemistry, organic chemistry or a related field
- Have worked with polymers in product development, preferably within medical devices or another regulated industry
- Understand the mechanical and physical properties of polymers and have experience with material testing
- Are comfortable analysing data and applying relevant statistical methods
- Can apply sound scientific judgement when evidence is incomplete or trade-offs are required
- Can document technical work clearly and appropriately for a regulated development environment
- Communicate fluently in English
