Senior Software Engineer - Portfolio Analysis
SimCorp · Copenhagen, Denmark
You apply on the site where the job is posted. I never handle applications.
WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT TO US
As our new Senior Software Engineer, you will join SimCorp's Product Division, a full-scale agile organization. You will be working in an agile team of about 5-7 people in the Portfolio Analysis Product Area. The team works on our SimCorp Dimension product and on capabilities used by investment professionals to understand portfolios, performance and risk.
In your daily work you will, together with your team, understand and review customer requirements, discuss solutions, implement and test the chosen solution, and support it. We use a variety of tools, but the main ones are C#, Dyalog APL and Oracle database. You will mainly be working with backend components, APIs and services.
The present and near future main topics are good maintainability, high system performance, continuous integration and delivery, and reshaping parts of our product for the cloud. We are not modernizing for the sake of fashion. We are doing it because our products are business critical, widely used and need to keep evolving in a careful way.
AI is part of how we work every day
We use AI every day and see it as a natural part of modern software engineering, alongside source control, testing, CI/CD and code reviews. We actively look for ways to integrate AI into our work whenever it creates real benefit for our customers, products, teams or engineers. AI does not replace engineering judgment. It helps good engineers learn faster, reduce repetitive work, explore alternatives and build better software.
In addition to implementing customer features, it is essential for us to continuously improve on all levels: company, division, product area, team and individual.
We encourage personal development, curiosity and experimentation. Every sixth sprint is reserved for planning, innovation, learning and improvements, giving you regular opportunities to explore new technologies, improve something important, or try out ideas that may benefit you, your team or the application.
WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Most importantly, you can see yourself contributing and thriving in the position described above. We are looking for a developer who enjoys real product engineering: understanding the problem, discussing trade-offs, writing good software, ensuring quality and improving the system over time.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be expected to help lead beyond writing code. You will contribute to design discussions, help the team make good technical decisions, improve maintainability and performance, and support the software you help build.
- Designing, developing and maintaining backend functionality and APIs using C# and .NET
- Working with Dyalog APL and other technologies where they are part of the product
- Contributing to cloud modernization and scalable service design where it adds real value
- Improving performance, maintainability, testability and developer experience
- Using CI/CD, automated testing and code reviews as natural parts of daily engineering work
- Using AI every day as part of practical engineering work, including exploring ideas, understanding unfamiliar code, generating prototypes, improving tests, documenting decisions and automating routine tasks
- Working with the team to discover where AI can create real value in our development process and where human engineering judgment should lead
- Collaborating with product owners, domain experts and fellow engineers to turn customer needs into good software solutions
- Supporting the team in continuously improving both the product and the way we work
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU
We expect you to know some of the following and be able to, and interested in, learning the rest:
- C# and .NET development
- Backend development and API design
- Building high-performance, scalable and maintainable applications
- Continuous integration and delivery
- Automated testing and practical quality engineering
- Working with relational databases, such as Oracle or similar
- Cloud technologies, distributed systems or Azure-based services
- A willingness to learn additional technologies, including Dyalog APL
- Curiosity about AI-assisted software engineering and how it can improve daily development work
Practical experience within financial instruments and financial investment systems is an advantage, but not a prerequisite for the job. It is more important that you take an interest in learning this field. We will bring you up to speed using technical and domain discussions, training, and a comprehensive onboarding program.
WHAT WE VALUE
Most importantly, you can see yourself contributing and thriving in the position described above. How you gained the skills needed for doing that is less important than your ability to learn, collaborate, and handle responsibilities.
We value people who are good at several of the following and interested in improving the rest:
- Leading your work and achieving results
- Trying new approaches to both new and old challenges
- Working with others to leverage the abilities of everyone in the team
- Learning new skills and improving upon existing ones
- Looking continuously for ways to improve what we do and how we do it
- Comparing technical quality with business value
- Using modern tools, especially AI tools, every day where they help us build better software and become better engineers
- Contributing to an inclusive, trust-based and collaborative engineering culture
HOW WE WORK
We believe good software engineering is a team activity. Quality is not something handed over at the end. It is built into the way we discuss requirements, design solutions, write code, test, review, deploy and learn from production feedback.
We also believe senior engineers should have room to think. We do not expect you to chase every trend. We expect you to apply sound engineering judgment, use modern practices where they help, and help us evolve a large and widely used product in a way that is sustainable for clients, users and engineers.
AI is one of the modern practices we take seriously. We do not view AI as a separate area of engineering. We view it as another tool in the engineering toolbox. Just as we continuously adopted better testing, automation and cloud technologies, we expect AI to become a natural part of how we design, build, document, test, maintain and improve software.
