Your Responsibilities
The Ibáñez group at ISTA explores the chemistry and physics of inorganic nanomaterials, with a strong focus on the design and understanding of solution-derived materials for applications such as thermoelectricity and catalysis. Our multidisciplinary approach bridges chemistry, physics, and materials science. We are currently seeking a full-time Laboratory Manager to support the day-to-day operations of our research group and laboratories. We are looking for a proactive, highly organized individual who enjoys automating administrative workflows.
- Coordinate ordering, deliveries, sample shipments, meetings, events, and other group activities
- Oversee the organization and maintenance of shared laboratory spaces, equipment, gloveboxes, glassware, chemicals, and consumables
- Coordinate laboratory safety activities with EHS, including chemical management and waste disposal
- Train new group members in good laboratory practices, safety procedures, and use of shared laboratory infrastructure
- Learn new laboratory procedures and provide practical support to researchers when needed
- Maintain the group website and coordinate updates with external providers
- Manage the group’s social media and support communication activities
- Explore and implement digital and AI-based tools to improve laboratory and administrative workflows
- Act as an interface with ISTA Scientific Service Units
Your Profile
- Education in chemistry, materials science, or a related field
- Proven hands-on experience as a laboratory manager in a chemistry or material science laboratory
- Practical experience in managing laboratory services and chemistry infrastructure, such as gloveboxes and Schlenk lines
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently
- Interest in automating administrative workflows and applying digital solutions to daily laboratory operations
- Comfortable with adapting and updating web content and using digital communication channels
- Strong written and spoken English skills; German is a plus
- A proactive, reliable, and service-oriented approach to supporting a research team
- Comfortable with learning new laboratory, administrative, and digital tools
