Are you an experienced PostgreSQL specialist who enjoys working hands-on with complex database environments and large-scale migrations? We are currently looking for a Database Engineer to take a key role in an Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration within a large international company operating in the gaming and digital entertainment industry.
Job description:
As a Database Engineer, you will play a central role in the end-to-end migration of database services from Oracle to PostgreSQL. The assignment is highly technical and hands-on, while also requiring you to take ownership of the migration journey and act as an important link between the development teams and the database environment.
You will work closely with developers and database specialists to translate application requirements into practical and reliable PostgreSQL solutions. A key part of the role is to review and validate database schemas, configurations and application changes, ensuring that the migration is carried out accurately, efficiently and with minimal disruption to the existing platform.
The applications do not contain PL/SQL code, meaning no PL/SQL conversion is required as part of the assignment.
Key responsibilities: Lead and provide hands-on support throughout the Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration.
Work closely with development teams and database specialists to ensure a smooth migration journey.
Translate application requirements into practical PostgreSQL database solutions.
Review and validate database schemas, configurations and application code changes.
Ensure database performance, compatibility and accuracy throughout the migration.
Support troubleshooting and technical decision-making related to PostgreSQL.
Work with Liquibase for database schema versioning and migration.
Document findings, learnings and best practices to support future database migrations.
Contribute to a migration approach that minimizes downtime and disruption to business-critical services.
We are looking for someone who: Has extensive professional experience working as a PostgreSQL DBA, Database Engineer or PostgreSQL Developer.
Has deep technical knowledge of PostgreSQL and is comfortable working hands-on with databases.
Has previous experience from Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration projects.
Has a good understanding of Oracle databases and Oracle-to-PostgreSQL datatype mappings.
Has experience reviewing and working with database schemas, SQL, configurations and performance.
Understands Liquibase and database schema versioning.
Is comfortable working independently within an established migration framework.
Has strong communication and collaboration skills and enjoys working closely with software development teams.
Is proactive, structured and able to take technical ownership of complex migration activities.
Is fluent in English, both spoken and written, as this is the primary working language.
It is considered an advantage if you have experience working with Java applications connected to PostgreSQL, distributed systems and event-driven architectures such as Kafka and/or Solace. Experience migrating high-traffic services with minimal downtime is also highly valuable. Knowledge of AI-assisted development workflows and tools such as Cursor, Claude or similar agent-based solutions is considered a plus.
Great emphasis will be placed on your ability to combine deep technical expertise with a collaborative mindset. We believe you are someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges while helping development teams move forward. You are comfortable taking initiative, working operationally and contributing both technical expertise and structure throughout the migration.
