We are currently looking for a Senior Electrical Commissioning Specialist in the framework of the pre-commissioning and commissioning of a large-scale hydrogen production facility in the Netherlands.
The assignment consists in leading the electrical pre-commissioning, energization, functional testing and grid integration activities of a complex industrial power system, from High Voltage and Medium Voltage distribution through to power conversion units and downstream electrical consumers.
The position is site-based in the Netherlands, with occasional business trips within Europe.
On a daily basis, the Senior Electrical Commissioning Specialist will report directly to the Commissioning Manager and coordinate closely with the site, electrical, instrumentation and vendor teams.
The main duties are the following:
- Lead the pre-commissioning, energization and commissioning of HV and MV systems.
- Supervise cold and hot commissioning of HV GIS switchgear and main power transformers, including insulation, timing and protection integrity checks.
- Lead the pre-commissioning and energization of MV switchgears, transformers and distribution feeders in order to secure power availability for downstream plant loads.
- Commission reactive power compensation systems, including StatCom modules and harmonic filters, ensuring compliance with applicable grid requirements.
- Oversee loop testing and energization of step-down transformers and rectifiers associated with the process electrical trains.
- Coordinate earthing resistance measurements, initial electrical inspections and protection relay activities required for grid connection.
- Execute phased energization of LV switchboards, including the use of temporary supplies where required, and manage the transition to permanent power prior to process start-up.
- Supervise the activities of electrical vendors and site subcontractors.
- Coordinate Inspection and Test Plans and ensure proper treatment and closure of electrical non-conformities.
- Perform end-to-end loop checks and protection interlock verifications between field equipment, switchgear and control systems.
- Support the commissioning of electrical shelters and associated electrical equipment.
- Drive system handover from Construction to Commissioning, ensuring punch-list clearance and compliance of as-built documentation.
- Verify that all electrical systems are ready for energization and commissioning in accordance with approved procedures and project requirements.
- Coordinate closely with HSE, QA/QC, construction and commissioning teams to ensure safe and controlled execution of electrical activities.
- Provide clear daily and weekly reporting on progress, issues, technical risks and required corrective actions.
- Contribute to the overall commissioning planning and sequencing of electrical systems.
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of complex electrical commissioning issues.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of proven hands-on experience in electrical commissioning within complex industrial power systems.
- Expert-level experience in commissioning of HV and MV systems.
- Strong experience in the commissioning of HV GIS switchgear, MV switchgear, power transformers, protection systems and distribution networks.
- Good experience with power conversion systems, rectifiers, reactive power compensation and harmonic filtering.
- Proven experience in electrical pre-commissioning, energization and functional testing.
- Good knowledge of grid connection requirements, protection systems and relay coordination.
- Experience in commissioning of electrical shelters and electrical equipment.
- Good knowledge of E&I documentation, including logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams and instrumentation hook-ups.
- Ability to read and interpret relevant process and piping documentation would be an advantage.
- Experience in commissioning management, contractor supervision and field coordination.
- Strong autonomy, leadership, teamwork and reporting skills.
- Good command of standard digital and office tools.
- Fluent English is mandatory.
- Availability for a full-time, site-based assignment in the Netherlands.
- The candidate must hold or be able to obtain the required site safety and electrical authorisations applicable to the assignment.
