About Vancast
Vancast Cloud Video is a private streaming platform for organisations whose events have to work the first time — secure, multilingual, broadcast quality. Enterprises and agencies use us to run live and on-demand events for their people and their customers. We have streamed more than 7,000 of them to date, on infrastructure built on AWS, Fastly and HIVE, and we are ISO 27001 certified.
About the role
We are looking for a software engineer to join our engineering team in Barcelona.
You will work across the whole product — one large monorepo with more than twenty deployable services and applications, actively developed and shipped. You will take features from idea to production: the interface, the services behind it, the data, and the tests. We do not split front-end from back-end between people.
You will also decide what gets built. Nobody hands you a specification or a mockup; you take a real need, work out what it should become, design it, and ship it. Your work reaches users in days.
You will do your best work here if you enjoy owning a problem end to end and want your decisions to matter.
Responsibilities
- Scope, build and ship full-stack features — interface, services, data and tests.
- Design the UI interfaces you build.
- Review your colleagues' code, and have yours reviewed.
- Keep the platform healthy through upgrades and migrations that keep a mature codebase quick to build in.
Minimum qualifications
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- A degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong TypeScript and modern JavaScript.
- Node back-end experience — REST APIs, request lifecycle, authentication and authorisation.
- Depth in a component-based front-end framework. Angular, React and Vue all count equally; we care how you reason about component design, state and reactivity, not which syntax you know.
- Relational databases and an ORM.
- Experience working in a large codebase you did not write.
- Deliberate use of AI coding tools — real leverage from them, and full ownership of everything you commit.
- Clear written English. Our code, commits, tickets and documentation are all in English.
Preferred qualifications
- AWS in depth — ECS, Lambda, CloudFront, S3, Step Functions.
- Live video and streaming — HLS, MediaLive, MediaPackage, MediaConvert, CDN and eCDN delivery.
- Angular and NgRx.
- NestJS and Sequelize.
- Real-time systems — websockets, server-sent events, Redis.
- NX monorepos and GitLab CI.
- Policy-based authorisation.
The setup
- Barcelona, remote-first. Ideally one or two days a week together in person to begin with, and flexible after that.
- Full time, contrato indefinido. 9–6 as standard, flexible in practice.
- 22 days of holiday a year, plus public holidays in Barcelona.
- €40.000–45.000 gross annual, depending on experience.
