What's the role all about?

As a DFG Caseworker (Means Testing), you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs), helping residents access adaptations that enable them to live safely and independently in their homes. Working closely with Occupational Therapists, surveyors and partner organisations, you will assess grant applications, carry out means testing, verify eligibility and guide customers through the application process. You will act as a central point of contact for residents, ensuring applications comply with legislation, grant conditions and council policies while delivering excellent customer care throughout the customer journey.

What will your day look like?

You will be advising customers on the Disabled Facilities Grant process, carrying out financial assessments and means testing, managing your own caseload and responding to customer enquiries. You'll work closely with Occupational Therapists, surveyors, contractors and other professionals to ensure adaptations are delivered effectively and in line with recommendations. You'll also maintain accurate records, provide advice and guidance, support safeguarding responsibilities and contribute to service improvements, audits and policy reviews.

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for someone with experience of working with vulnerable people, housing services and grant programmes, ideally including Disabled Facilities Grants. You'll have strong organisational skills, experience managing a varied caseload and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people. A good understanding of Disabled Facilities Grant legislation, welfare benefits, housing-related issues and the needs of disabled residents will be essential. You'll be customer focused, proactive, able to work independently and committed to delivering high quality outcomes for residents.
