Job Description: Mission
The Modular Data Center (MDC) Line of Business has delivered tremendous growth in recent years. MDC integrates Schneider Electric technologies into modular, factory‑tested enclosures and delivers complete turnkey solutions to destination countries.
The SME Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating a multidisciplinary engineering SME team supporting the development, tendering, and execution of Modular Data Center (MDC) solutions across Europe.
The role ensures technical excellence, regulatory compliance, cost effectiveness, and delivery accuracy throughout the full project lifecycle, from early design and bid support through execution, while strengthening the competitiveness and scalability of MDC offer. Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 15-18 SMEs across:
Electrical Mechanical (HVAC) Fire Detection & Suppression Structural Compliance & Regulatory Engineering
- Set clear objectives, workload planning, and performance reviews for the SME team.
- Foster strong cross-discipline collaboration and a culture of technical rigor and accountability.
- Ensure technical consistency and standardization across Modular Data Center solutions.
Offer Strategy
- Contribute to MDC offer strategy by identifying and evaluating emerging technologies and market needs.
- Drive innovation in areas such as liquid cooling, AI‑ready MDC solutions, modular electrical distribution, sustainability‑driven and energy-efficient designs.
- Monitor and engage with other Schneider Electric Business Unit roadmaps to identify synergies and integrations that enhance MDC competitiveness.
- Act as the engineering authority for Modular Data Center architecture and integrated design.
- Ensure all designs meet: client technical requirements, European codes and standards (e.g., IEC, EN, Eurocodes, local codes), internal design guidelines.
- Drive continuous improvement of MDC designs for: scalability, constructability, energy efficiency, reliability and resilience
Tendering & Execution support

Support with technical concept development and technical risk assessment

Ensure deliverables and designs are technically accurate, competitive and compliant

Support project execution to ensure design intent is maintained from concept through construction and commissioning.

Support project team with: Design Reviews, Approvals, interface management between disciplines, resolution of complex technical issues, Factory Acceptance Test and related technical reviews.

Act as the primary technical interface during escalations with clients, global engineering teams, and key suppliers.

(External) English Qualifications: What we are looking for?
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related discipline)
- 8+ years experience in data center engineering, critical infrastructure, or modular construction
- 3+ years leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Deep understanding of data center systems and critical infrastructure
- Strong systems-level and integrated design thinking
- Excellent stakeholder communication, influence and decision-making
- Risk awareness during tendering and execution
- Ability to balance standardization with project-specific requirements
- Familiarity with Tier standards (Uptime Institute)
- Experience with hyperscale or colocation clients
- Knowledge of sustainability and energy efficiency standards
