Postdoctoral Positions in Statistics and the Mathematics of Insurance and Economics

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen is seeking top early-career researchers for a number of attractive one- to three-year postdoctoral positions.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences has strong research groups in many areas of applied mathematics, and has an active postdoc and visitors' program. Applicants in all areas of mathematics covered by the research groups of the department will be considered.

There will be postdoc stipends in the following specific areas:

• Insurance mathematics, optimization and operations research, mathematical finance, econometrics and financial economics, and applied probability theory, covered by the Section for Insurance and Economics.
• Probability theory, mathematical statistics and applied statistics, covered by the Section for Statistics and Probability Theory.

In particular, the following specific positions are open:

• Variational analysis in the Wasserstein space of stochastic processes (contact Johannes Wiesel wiesel@math.ku.dk)
• Causal modelling and related questions in reliable machine learning (contact Sebastian Weichwald, https://sweichwald.de/#research-with-us). Applicants are encouraged to describe a concrete research direction, what they bring to it, and why it fits the group’s work.
• Causal Inference and Interpretability in Complex Models (contact Nikolaj Thams, thams@math.ku.dk )
• Optimization under decision-dependent uncertainty (contact Giovanni Pantuso, gp@math.ku.dk)

The postdoc’s duties will include research within mathematics as well as teaching. The teaching load is typically two half-semester courses per year, of which one usually is as a teaching assistant. The post may also include performance of other project-specific duties.

The positions are open with starting date in 2027, ordinarily September 1st or as soon as possible thereafter. The salary is very competitive and researchers from outside Denmark may qualify for a reduced tax rate (see terms below).

Terms of employment

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
