Job Purpose
The Assistant Production Supervisor supports the Production Supervisor in the day-to-day management of the production organization and is responsible for the operational coordination of work during the assigned shift. The role translates the production plan into daily execution and ensures that work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with established quality and business standards. The Assistant Production Supervisor monitors daily production progress, allocates work, supports employees with operational issues, and intervenes in deviations or escalates them in a timely manner. In addition, the role supports the Production Supervisor with reporting, KPI follow-up, action management, employee development, and other administrative and organizational activities.
How You Make an Impact (Job Accountabilities)
- Safety & HSE: Ensures compliance with safety procedures, company rules, and expected behavior; intervenes immediately in unsafe situations and reports incidents; conducts safety rounds and workplace inspections; encourages employees to report unsafe situations; maintains housekeeping and 5S on the shop floor; supports incident investigations and follows up on actions.
- Daily operations: Allocates work within the shift; coordinates daily production activities; monitors progress, output, and planning; sets priorities during operational disruptions; ensures a correct start of shift and handover; supports line start-ups, changeovers, and product switches; escalates deviations to the Production Supervisor in a timely manner.
- Operational support: Prepares daily reports; collects and verifies production data; supports daily operations review (DOR) meetings with current information; manages action lists and follows up on actions; provides input for KPI reporting; supports staffing planning and training registrations; checks operational records for completeness.
- People leadership: Coaches Senior Operators and Operators during daily work; guides new employees and temporary workers; gives direct feedback on behavior, safety, and performance; encourages ownership and teamwork; identifies training needs; provides input for appraisal and development discussions.
- Quality & compliance: Ensures compliance with quality procedures; checks critical process steps; follows up on quality deviations; works with Quality during investigations; promotes right-first-time execution; ensures correct documentation.
- Reliability & asset care: Supports operators with first-line troubleshooting; escalates technical issues to Maintenance; identifies recurring failures; supports root cause analyses; contributes to improving equipment reliability.
- Continuous improvement: Identifies waste and improvement opportunities; supports continuous improvement activities; maintains standard work on the shop floor; follows up on improvement actions; encourages employees to submit ideas; supports the implementation of new ways of working.
- Communication & collaboration: Maintains daily contact with Planning, Quality, Maintenance, and Warehouse; communicates clearly about priorities and disruptions; ensures complete shift handovers; supports the Production Supervisor with current operational information; represents the shift in operational meetings when needed.
- People development: Coaches Operators and Senior Operators during daily work; identifies development needs within the shift; promotes knowledge sharing between employees; supports practical training and onboarding; tracks training progress and qualifications; creates a work environment in which learning is part of the daily job.

- Assigns work and labor allocation within the shift.
- Adjusts priorities within the daily operation to achieve the production plan.
- Stops work when safety, quality, or environment is at risk.
- Escalates operational disruptions to the Production Supervisor.
- Addresses employees on safety, quality, behavior, and compliance with procedures.
- Initiates improvement actions and monitors progress.
- Supports the coordination of breakdowns and product changeovers.
Qualifications / Education / Skills / Requirements / Capabilities
- MBO+ level of work and thinking, preferably in a technical or production-related discipline.
- Several years of experience in a production environment.
- Experience with coordinating or functionally leading employees.
- Knowledge of production processes, safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Basic knowledge of Lean, 5S, and standard work.
- Good command of Microsoft Office; experience with ERP or MES systems is an advantage.
- Visible on the shop floor, leads by example, keeps overview under pressure, supports people, sets clear expectations, and contributes actively to a safe, stable, and efficient production organization.
