Amentum is seeking a Grounds Laborer to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Grounds Laborer will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and landscaping tasks to ensure improved grounds, operational areas, and stormwater drainage systems are maintained in a neat and sightly appearance and in compliance with required standards.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform routine grounds maintenance operations including mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, mulching, weeding, raking, planting, fertilizing, and watering for improved grounds and landscaped areas.
- Assist with the maintenance and cleaning of stormwater drainage systems, ensuring they remain free of debris, blockages, and other obstructions that could disrupt proper water flow.
- Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment, including lawnmowers, weed trimmers, brush cutters, blowers, and other related tools.
- Collect and remove leaves, grass clippings, trash, and debris from grounds, operational areas, parking lots, walkways, and other outdoor environments.
- Install and maintain plants, trees, and shrubs as directed, ensuring they are adequately watered, fertilized, pruned, and protected from pests or diseases.
- Maintain outdoor artificial turf by removing vegetation from and fluff artificial turf, clean liquid spills, remove bird droppings, and any other debris.
- Assist in the repair and maintenance of irrigation systems to ensure the proper distribution of water to all landscaped and grassy areas.
- Report any observed maintenance issues, equipment malfunctions, or unsafe conditions to the Grounds Crew Leader or designated supervisor.
- Follow established safety protocols and guidelines while performing grounds maintenance and using manual and powered equipment.
- Required to comply with all occupational safety and health standards, rules, and orders applicable to their actions and conduct. The role demands consistent, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proactive reporting of workplace hazards, and total adherence to safety protocols to maintain a zero-injury environment.
- Support grounds operations during inclement weather, including storm cleanup, debris removal, and maintaining drainage systems.
- Work as part of a team to address service orders and meet contractual requirements for grounds management tasks.
- Assist with seasonal or special projects as assigned by the Grounds Crew Leader or supervisor.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
- Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
Required Qualifications:
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or related work preferred but not required (training provided for suitable candidates).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of common landscaping tools and equipment, including mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
- Basic understanding of grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, edging pruning, and weeding.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, carrying, and standing for extended periods, in various weather conditions.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team to accomplish maintenance tasks effectively.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices and proper handling of equipment and materials.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce is preferred.
- A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle.
- Experience in government or military groundskeeping or landscaping programs.
- Basic knowledge or training in the installation and maintenance of irrigation and stormwater drainage systems.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain improved grounds in compliance with contractual and operational standards.
