Jeppesen ForeFlight
Senior Software Engineer
Location: Sweden | Employment Type: Full-time | Team: Engineering
About Jeppesen ForeFlight
Jeppesen ForeFlight brings together decades of Jeppesen's aeronautical data expertise with ForeFlight's award-winning flight planning and navigation platform. Our software supports pilots, airlines, and flight departments around the world, delivering mission-critical tools for safe and efficient flight operations. As we continue to grow our presence in Europe, we're building out our Sweden-based team to help design and build the systems behind our products.
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team in Sweden. You'll take on complex technical problems across our flight planning, navigation, and aeronautical data products, working with a high degree of independence while helping raise the technical bar for the team around you. You'll partner closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to design and ship reliable, high-quality software used by pilots and flight operations teams worldwide.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and ship high-quality, well-tested software across the stack, taking ownership of complex features from design through delivery.
- Make sound architectural and design decisions, weighing trade-offs between speed, scalability, and maintainability.
- Work closely with product managers and designers to shape requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions.
- Mentor other engineers through code review, pairing, and technical guidance, helping raise the overall quality bar of the team.
- Identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and reliability risks proactively.
- Contribute to system design and architecture discussions, including for cross-team or company-wide initiatives.
- Write and maintain automated tests, and champion strong engineering practices including CI/CD and code review standards.
- Participate in on-call rotations and incident response, helping diagnose and resolve production issues.
- Collaborate with engineers across time zones, including teams in Europe and the US, to align on shared systems and priorities.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong track record of shipping production software independently.
- Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages relevant to our stack (e.g., Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, or C#).
- Strong understanding of software design principles, data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems fundamentals.
- Experience with API design, databases, and building reliable, scalable services or applications.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS or GCP) and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through ambiguity.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly to engineers and non-technical stakeholders alike.
- Experience with modern engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, and code review.
- Based in Sweden or willing to work from our Sweden location, with authorization to work in the EU.
Nice to Have
- Experience building software in aviation, geospatial, or other safety-critical, data-intensive domains.
- Full-stack experience across front-end and backend systems.
- Experience mentoring engineers or informally leading technical initiatives.
- Familiarity with event-driven or streaming architectures (e.g., Kafka, SQS).
- Interest in aviation or flight operations.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- The chance to work on software that supports pilots and flight operations globally.
- A collaborative, international team spanning Europe and the US.
- Flexible working arrangements and a strong culture of continuous learning.
- Opportunities for professional growth within a growing European engineering hub.
