Amentum is seeking a Synchrolift Support Hand to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Synchrolift Support Hand assists with dry docking and undocking operations using the Synchrolift system. This position supports the safe handling and positioning of lines, operates docking equipment and transfer tractors, and performs diving related tasks as required to ensure safe and efficient vessel movements.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with dry docking and undocking evolutions using the Synchrolift system.
- Handle lines and operate transfer tractors and other equipment used during docking operations.
- Support vessel alignment, positioning, and securing during docking and undocking procedures.
- Participate in docking evolutions while maintaining safety and operational requirements.
- Perform underwater tasks as a qualified diver/swimmer when required.
- Prepare and submit Dive Plans and Safety Briefs when diving activities are part of docking or undocking operations.
- Inspect, maintain, and perform minor repairs on docking equipment and tools.
- Coordinate with supervisors and team members to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
- Follow established safety procedures, operational protocols, and applicable requirements.
- Support the Synchrolift team in maintaining operational readiness.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience handling lines, operating capstans, and driving transfer tractors or similar docking equipment.
- Qualified diver/swimmer capable of performing required underwater tasks.
- Knowledge of diving safety procedures and the ability to prepare Dive Plans and Safety Briefs.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
- Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- Must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce
- A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle.
- Experience with Synchrolift operations, line handling, or docking/undocking activities.
- Formal diving certification, such as PADI, NAUI, or military/commercial diving qualifications.
- Knowledge of safety standards and procedures related to docking, undocking, and underwater operations.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in offices, industrial warehouses, ports, airfields, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
