Conditions for employment:
- Successful candidates will be required to undergo training to obtain the internal certification necessary for the execution of the tasks of System Controller. During this training, they will be entitled to 75% of the basic salary pertaining to grade O 1, step 1. Upon successful completion of the training, the salary will increase to 100% of grade O 1, step 1.
- Successful candidates are required to undergo a probation period before being established. The duration of this probation period shall be equal to the period required to complete the training and obtain internal certification for the execution of the tasks of System Controller
Your team
Within the The Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre, The System Controller safeguards the operational availability of MUAC's critical air traffic management systems (ATM/CNS) and external service provision by providing continuous (24/7) monitoring, incident response, fault diagnosis, and coordination, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of air traffic services.
Your role
Your role will be to :
- Monitor and operate MUAC’s Air Traffic Management / Communication, Navigation & Surveillance (ATM/CNS) systems and service provision autonomously in accordance with System Control procedures and working practices.
- Interpret operator messages, system alarms and reported deficiencies, assess their operational impact, and record these according to the applicable process.
- Perform first-line fault diagnosis, fault isolation and system or equipment reconfiguration to restore MUAC’s ATM/CNS systems, service provision.
- Initiate, coordinate and follow up first-line corrective actions in accordance with the applicable process.
- Contribute to the verification, validation and implementation of new or changed software and hardware products.
- Contribute to projects, training development and initiatives in line with the System Control Function.
- Apply relevant safety and security procedures during incidents, degraded modes and emergency situations.
- Draft clear technical reports on system, service and equipment deficiencies.
- Maintain, improve and validate System Control documentation, procedures and working instructions.
- Liaise with stakeholders to establish and maintain effective working practices.
- Obtain and maintain the competencies and legally required Certificates of Competence for the System Controller function, as defined in the System Control Training Programme and Assessment Plan.
- Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.
Required qualifications, experience & competencies

Completion of post-secondary education, meeting European Qualifications Framework (EQF) 5 or higher, followed by at least 3 years relevant professional experience to perform the advertised responsibilities.

During the training period to obtain the certificate of competence, system controllers are entitled to 75% of the basic salary corresponding to grade O1, step 1.
- Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEP) Competence
- Primary Intervention Certificate

Experience with first-line occurrence handling and the ITIL process.

Experience with monitoring and control of ATM/CNS systems or similar, complex, safety-critical systems (e.g., nuclear, power/water distribution, chemical plants, etc).

Experience working with established technical procedures and working practices.

The following would constitute an advantage:
- Understanding of the Air Traffic Service and Data Provision Domain.
- Understanding of core IT infrastructure and workplace technologies, including Office 365, Linux, virtualisation, WAN/LAN environments, etc.

System Controllers are members of the Primary Intervention Team (PIT)

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be at least independent users of English at level C1.
The levels relate to the European-framework-reference Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).
