Tech Lead – Mobile App

Location: Europe Remote

We are working with an international fintech business seeking a hands-on Tech Lead to take technical ownership of a high-volume B2C mobile product used by a large and growing customer base across multiple markets.

This is not a purely Android-focused leadership role. We are looking for someone with strong backend engineering and architecture expertise who can lead a cross-functional squad covering backend, mobile/frontend and QA.

You will lead a team of approximately 5–10 engineers, working closely with Product while remaining actively involved in system design, development, code review and technical decision-making.

What you’ll be responsible for

• Leading a cross-functional engineering squad across backend, mobile/frontend and QA.
• Owning the technical architecture supporting a large-scale B2C mobile application.
• Designing and developing backend services, APIs, integrations and data models.
• Setting engineering standards across the squad and ensuring high-quality delivery.
• Guiding the mobile/frontend team and providing clear direction on architecture, code quality and user experience.
• Owning technical delivery, release quality and production reliability.
• Working alongside Product to turn business requirements into realistic technical solutions.
• Helping engineers develop through code reviews, technical coaching and direct feedback.
• Contributing hands-on to development and solving complex engineering challenges.

What we’re looking for

• Strong hands-on backend engineering experience, ideally with Java.
• Previous experience leading a small cross-functional engineering team.
• Experience building or scaling a B2C mobile product with a significant consumer base.
• Strong backend architecture, API design and distributed systems knowledge.
• A good understanding of mobile/frontend engineering and the ability to recognise and enforce high standards.
• Experience designing and developing systems or major product areas from scratch.
• The ability to balance technical leadership with hands-on development.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence working closely with Product and senior engineering stakeholders.
• Experience in fintech, payments, lending or another high-volume consumer environment would be highly advantageous.
• Multi-market experience, particularly within emerging markets, would be beneficial.

This role would suit an experienced Tech Lead or senior engineer who remains technically hands-on and is comfortable owning the complete architecture behind a consumer-facing mobile product. It would not suit someone looking to move away from engineering into a purely managerial position.
