EPAM is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer to serve as a Technology Lead for a product team delivering investor-facing solutions for the world's second-largest asset management company — a global financial services leader managing trillions in assets and serving millions of investors worldwide.
The client is driving a major digital transformation focused on agility, innovation, and automation, built on a completely cloud-native AWS architecture with a strong emphasis on serverless and microservices. EPAM operates as a strategic engineering partner with end-to-end product ownership — from ideation through post-production.
In this role, you will provide hands-on technology leadership for full-stack backend development, including microservices, APIs, and data store design — while guiding the team through legacy modernization and cloud-native architecture adoption.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership and accountability for the technology solution and output delivered by the team
- Provide technology thought leadership and assist the team in making sound technical decisions
- Remove technology-related obstacles throughout the project lifecycle
- Work with architects, CTO organization, and cross-functional teams to ensure technology governance and best practices are followed
- Understand functional, non-functional requirements, and quality attributes — and build solutions accordingly
- Contribute to and improve architecture and design
- Build, review, and ensure quality of data models, API contracts, architecture, frameworks, and code
- Assist in effort estimation, planning, prioritization, and dependency identification
- Manage all technology artifacts
- Analyze legacy applications and define target-state design/architecture
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar (Master's degree preferred)
- 8+ years of professional software development experience
- 8+ years of experience designing and developing microservices, REST APIs, and front-end applications
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot for backend microservices development
- Experience with AWS cloud-native services (EC2, S3, Lambda, Kinesis, Firehose, DynamoDB, EKS, CloudWatch)
- Proficiency in cloud-native microservices architecture with strong AWS expertise
- Expertise in API economy with business acumen
- Ability to analyze legacy applications and define target-state architecture
- Experience working in Agile methodology
- Hands-on technology leadership — preferably full-stack development
- Excellent English communication and presentation skills — this is a client-facing role
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to deal with ambiguity
- Attention to detail and team leadership capabilities
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (Database, CTO organization, API Economy, etc.)
Nice to have
- Front-end experience with Angular and TypeScript
- Experience with Node.js for backend services
- Familiarity with Python for scripting or data-related tasks
- Experience with databases: DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, or legacy DB2
- Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Splunk
- Experience with testing frameworks (Cucumber, API testing tools)
- Familiarity with mobile testing tools such as Perfecto
- Background in financial services, asset management, or investor-facing platforms
- Experience with data migration and legacy system decommissioning
