Who we are
At Vandebron, we're transforming the energy landscape, steering away from the conventional to champion sustainability. Born in 2014, our journey began with Chapter 1, disrupting the market with a transparent platform connecting consumers directly to local, green energy producers. Now, in Chapter 2, we are dedicated to ensuring 100% green energy availability, 100% of the time. Think smart solutions: flexible use of wind and solar farms, Smart EV Charging, and efficient energy storage.
No waiting around, we actively shape a sustainable future. Good energy, smart solutions: that's Vandebron.
Your impact
As our Gross Margin Analyst, you play a pivotal role in Vandebron’s commercial success and green mission by analyzing and optimizing our pricing and sourcing strategies. Positioned within our newly established Pricing & Sourcing Team, you will bridge the gap between energy market dynamics, procurement costs, data engineering, and consumer needs.
In this role, you won't just generate static reports, you will actively build and scale the data warehouse infrastructure in dbt and Snowflake that powers our commercial decisions from energy sourcing all the way to end-consumer pricing. Working closely with the Portfolio Management, Commerce, Finance, and Strategy teams, you will turn complex energy market dynamics into actionable data models, ensuring our offerings remain highly competitive while maximizing our gross margins.
In this job, you will be reporting directly to Jeroen van Rooij, Manager Sourcing & Pricing.
Note: You may notice a similar job listing on our careers page titled "Sourcing & Pricing Analyst." We are testing two job titles to see which resonates best with applicants, but they represent the exact same role. The official internal title for this position will be Gross Margin Analyst.
What you’ll do
- Optimize gross margin & pricing: Conduct in-depth analytical modeling to optimize commercial pricing for energy contracts and flexibility solutions, balancing purchase costs, margin targets, risk premiums, and market competitiveness.
- Build & scale data models: Design, build, and maintain production-grade data models and architecture in dbt and Snowflake to enable scalable, automated reporting from sourcing to pricing.
- Sourcing & customer value analysis: Evaluate sourcing strategies and procurement efficiencies alongside Portfolio Management. Build customer value models and analyze specific customer segments to identify commercial opportunities.
- Drive strategic projects: Take the lead on modeling new regulatory frameworks (e.g., ETS2, “green gas” mandates) and build processes where none currently exist, establishing robust data pipelines and completeness controls.
- Monitor market & competitor dynamics: Track energy market developments, tariff structures, price volatility, and competitive offerings using custom scrapers and dashboards.
- Enable smart decision-making: Develop real-time tools, automated dashboards (e.g., Lightdash/PowerBI), and commercial business cases to evaluate the financial and P&L impact of new pricing strategies.
What you bring
- Technical & data modeling expertise: Proven experience building and scaling data models using dbt and Snowflake (or similar tools like Databricks, PostgreSQL) alongside advanced SQL skills.
- Margin & pricing acumen: Strong background in gross margin analysis, commercial pricing optimization, and financial metrics (Customer Lifetime Value, cost-to-acquire, P&L impact). Python and BI tool proficiency (Lightdash, PowerBI) is a plus.
- Energy market affinity: Solid understanding of (or strong affinity for) energy procurement, tariff structures, risk premiums, and market dynamics.
- Commercial & tactical mindset: Curiosity for where customer value lies, combined with a tactical mindset (6–12 month outlook) to align pricing strategy with broader business goals.
- Communication & stakeholder skills: Proactive, self-driven, and adept at translating complex pricing and data topics into clear insights for non-expert stakeholders across Commerce, Finance, and Strategy.
- Language: Fluency in English is required. Dutch is a nice-to-have, but not essential.
Why join Vandebron?
- High impact on Chapter 2: You will directly shape the commercial core of our business as we push toward 100% green energy availability 100% of the time.
- Build from the ground up: As a foundational member of the new Pricing & Sourcing team, you’ll have significant autonomy to build data structures, scrapers, and sourcing workflows from scratch.
- More than number crunching: This position offers a rare hybrid focus across data engineering, sourcing strategy, financial modeling, and commercial execution, giving you far more ownership than traditional analyst roles.
A career move that matters
- Master advanced energy data: Deepen your expertise in energy procurement, customer value modeling, and gross margin strategy while mastering production-grade data modeling in dbt and Snowflake.
- Set up new sourcing processes: Within your first 6–12 months, you will establish end-to-end, semi-automated sourcing workflows and controls for new regulatory changes (e.g., ETS2 and green gas) and new energy products.
- Deliver real-time pricing agility: Build a data-driven pricing framework and automated dashboards that make Vandebron significantly faster and smarter in responding to market changes.
