Objective of the position
The Quality Engineer leads quality assurance efforts across multiple customers and production lines. This role involves acting as the primary customer quality contact, overseeing product conformity, leading customer audits, and resolving customer claims and production line issues. The Quality Engineer is responsible for making decisions on stopping and restarting production, as well as overseeing the work of Quality Inspectors. Additionally, the role supports new product launches, ensures product compliance, and drives continuous improvement through audits, data analysis, and corrective actions.
Characterization of activities
Customer Quality Contact:
- Serve as the primary quality contact for multiple customers.
- Lead regular meetings to review quality performance, concerns, and action plans.
- Provide prompt and effective claim responses for customer inquiries and complaints.
Product Conformance:
- Ensure conforming products are produced on one or more production lines.
- Work with production teams to resolve quality issues and ensure product specifications are met.
Claim Resolution Leadership:
- Lead the resolution of customer claims and production line issues.
- Quarantine goods at customer sites and manage outgoing goods with quality concerns.
- Engage cross-functional teams (engineering, production, logistics) to implement corrective actions.
Product Audits & Nonconformity Resolution:
- Plan and execute product audits to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Escalate major nonconformities to the Quality Manager and address issues if corrective action deadlines are exceeded.
Lead Customer Audits:
- Lead customer audits at the production site, ensuring that all quality systems, processes, and products meet customer requirements and specifications.
- Coordinate and prepare for customer audits, providing necessary documentation and data.
- Ensure successful audit outcomes and follow up on corrective actions as needed.
- Decisions on Stop and Re-start of Production:
- Make decisions on stopping and restarting production in the event of quality issues, ensuring that defective products are contained and corrective actions are implemented.
- Work with production teams to assess the impact of quality concerns and coordinate with relevant departments to ensure production is resumed only when quality standards are met.
Oversee Work of Quality Inspectors:
- Supervise and support the daily activities of Quality Inspectors, ensuring that inspections are performed according to standards and schedules.
- Provide training, guidance, and feedback to Quality Inspectors to ensure consistency and quality in inspections.
- Review inspection results, identify issues, and assist in corrective actions as needed.
- Support New Product Launches:
- Support new product launches and product changes from a quality perspective.
- Oversee PPAP submissions, ensuring all customer requirements and standards are met.
Standard Work in Quality Processes:
- Participate in and contribute to the following:
- Customer Communication and Quality Performance Meetings
- Change Management Meetings and Product Launch Meetings
- 0Km Review Meetings and Onsite Visits
- Download and review customer scorecards and verify quality status.
- Upload quality performance and change management documentation as required.
Customer Complaints & 8D Management:
- Lead 8D management for customer complaints, ensuring containment, corrective actions, and effective follow-up.
Performance Data Analysis & Reporting:
- Analyze and report on quality performance data (MSA, CPK, FTQ, scrap rates).
- Use data to monitor trends, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions as needed.
Production Assurance:
- Support production assurance efforts to ensure consistent product quality and address any discrepancies.
Knowledge and skills
- Experience: 3-5 years in quality engineering within the automotive industry, with experience in PCBA, wiring harnesses, metals, and plastics.
- PPAP Expertise: Strong experience with PPAP submissions and product launch processes.
- Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis: Expertise in 8D management, containment, and corrective action implementation for customer complaints and production line issues.
- Customer Interaction: Strong customer-facing skills, with experience in claim resolution and regular customer communication.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven ability to work across departments to resolve quality issues and drive corrective actions.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Proficient in analyzing MSA, CPK, FTQ, and scrap data to drive performance improvement.
