No Job Description:
The AI Research Engineer brings research discipline to practical technology validation at Hitachi Energy. The role interprets emerging AI research, methods, frameworks, models and evaluation approaches, and turns the most relevant developments into practical validation questions. It performs hands-on prototypes, benchmarks and comparisons to produce evidence before architecture, platform, acceleration or delivery commitments are made.
How you will make an impact
- Review AI research, publications, benchmarks and model documentation, and identify developments that merit practical testing.
- Translate research insight into validation questions, fair experimental designs and baselines, together with the Experimentation Engineer and Opportunity Lead.
- Run research-led prototypes, benchmarks and comparisons, and interpret the results with clear limitations and proportionate recommendations.
- Exchange methods and learnings with Hitachi Group, DAAI peers, vendors and external research communities. Publication is not a standing expectation.
- Keep reusable methods, benchmarks and test assets where they prevent repeated work.
- Turn one finding into a concrete question, for example whether a new technique beats what we use today on our kind of data.
- Design the experiment: baseline, tasks, how success is judged, and what would invalidate the result. Run benchmarks and research-led prototypes in Python (LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, agents, fine-tuning, responsible-AI checks).
Your Background
- 3+ years in applied AI research, AI engineering or ML research, in a company, consultancy or research institution.
- Strong Python, with hands-on AI/ML experimentation, benchmarking and evaluation.
- Familiar with LLMs, generative AI, fine-tuning, RAG, agentic AI and responsible-AI evaluation. MSc or PhD in AI, machine learning or computer science, valued when combined with practical work.
The final offer will be based on candidate location, skills and qualifications, experience, and aligned with internal pay structures.
This role may be open in multiple locations. If the salary information listed is not applicable for your current home location, salary details relevant to your location will be discussed with you at a later stage.
