Bar Manager – Amsterdam

Full-time | 38 hours per week | Café José, Jordaan, Amsterdam

Do you have solid hospitality experience and are you ready for more responsibility? Café José is looking for an ambitious Bar Manager to run the day-to-day operation of our lively neighbourhood bar in the heart of Amsterdam’s Jordaan.

You’ll lead the team, keep an eye on quality and results, and make sure our guests have a great time. At the same time, you’re not the kind of manager who disappears into the office. When the bar gets busy, you’re right there with the team.

About Café José

Café José is a typical Jordaan neighbourhood bar with a Spanish twist. Think classic Amsterdam brown café, regulars at the bar, sports on TV and a sunny terrace on the Looiersgracht, combined with a menu full of tapas to share.

Patatas with your pint, boquerones with your drinks and croquetas next to the bitterballen. The atmosphere is informal, lively and friendly, with guests coming in for anything from a quick after-work drink to a long night at the bar.

What will you be doing?

As Bar Manager, you are responsible for the daily operation of Café José. You lead by example, support your team and make sure everything runs smoothly before, during and after service.

Your responsibilities include:

• Leading, motivating and supporting the team
• Creating staff schedules and ensuring the right staffing levels
• Training and onboarding new colleagues
• Maintaining high standards of hospitality, quality and hygiene
• Managing stock and placing orders
• Keeping an eye on labour costs, operational costs and results
• Spotting opportunities to improve sales and the guest experience
• Solving problems quickly during busy services
• Working actively on the floor and behind the bar
• Contributing ideas for events, promotions and the further development of Café José

You’ll have plenty of freedom to take responsibility and improve the way we work. Good ideas are there to be used.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who enjoys the energy of a busy bar, knows how to keep an overview and gets satisfaction from helping a team perform at its best.

You:

• Have at least 3 years of hospitality experience
• Preferably have experience as a Bar Manager, Restaurant Manager, Assistant Manager, Floor Manager or Shift Leader
• Are ambitious and ready to develop further
• Know how to motivate, guide and give feedback to a team
• Stay organised and calm during busy services
• Have a strong sense of hospitality and commercial awareness
• Are comfortable taking responsibility and making decisions
• Are available for the evenings and weekends that come with working in hospitality

You don’t necessarily need to have had the official title of Bar Manager before. If you already lead shifts, take responsibility for colleagues and feel ready for the next step, we definitely encourage you to apply.
