Senior Java Engineer with Kotlin (PST Overlap)

Our client is one of the largest game studios known for their very successful MOBA and FPS franchises.

As Senior Software Engineer on the Content Access Platform team, you will be part of a group of backend engineers responsible for developing and maintaining a high-throughput transaction engine used by numerous online games, enabling millions of gamers to buy and trade in-game items.

Your team will comprise experienced engineers from Poland working closely with other EU and US West Coast engineering teams. Although it's not a daily requirement, due to working across multiple time zones, flexibility to attend later meetings is an important factor for success in this role.

You will have a chance to work with industry veterans on the infrastructure vital for the day-to-day operations of a massive online gaming platform.

Each team member is expected to proactively propose tools, designs, and implementation strategies.

Responsibilities:

• Design, code, test Java/Kotlin applications based on SpringBoot ver. 3
• Prepare design docs, implementation strategy and choose appropriate libraries
• Collaborate within your pod (up to 5 engineers) and with other cross-functional teams
• Create and manage well documented RESTful APIs in SpringBoot
• Write and execute unit, integration, end-to-end and load tests, participate in code reviews
• Stay updated with Java advancements and industry trends
• Maintain a build toolkit in Gradle
• Create, modify and maintain CI/CD pipelines with Docker and Github Actions
• Design database schemas, write MySQL queries, and manage data integrity
• Occasionally deploying infrastructure for the project using Terraform and internal tools
• Monitoring system telemetry and setting up alerting using Datadog

Required qualifications:

• 5+ years backend development experience
• Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• Strong modern Java (17+)
• Experience building services with SpringBoot or similar frameworks
• Experience designing REST APIs
• Experience with JPA/Hibernate or strong SQL-first data modeling (e.g., JOOQ)
• Familiarity with testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit) and agile methodologies
• Demonstrated ability to design clean, maintainable backend architectures
• Solid relational database fundamentals
• Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
• Effective communication and teamwork skills

Nice to have:

• Experience with Kotlin
• Experience with event-driven systems (Kinesis, Kafka, etc.)
• Experience with Cloud and Infrastructure solutions with Docker, Terraform and Kubernetes
• Experience working with Public Cloud, preferably AWS
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, preferably Github Actions
• Experience with observability and monitoring tools, preferably Datadog
