Amentum is seeking a Synchrolift Mechanic / Rigger / Diver to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Synchrolift Mechanic / Rigger / Diver will be responsible for performing underwater inspections, surveys, maintenance repair, and recovery operations in support of marine and vessel operations. This position conducts commercial diving activities, operates hyperbaric chambers, performs preventive and corrective maintenance on diving equipment, and supports underwater construction and repair projects.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct underwater inspections, surveys, recovery operations, and maintenance activities on vessels, marine structures, and underwater assets.
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing diving operations in accordance with established procedures and safety requirements.
- Perform underwater repair, installation, salvage, and recovery tasks.
- Operate and monitor hyperbaric chambers in support of diving operations and emergency response.
- Serve as a tender during hyperbaric medical treatments and diving operations.
- Perform scheduled, preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on diving equipment, compressors, air systems, vessels, and equipment assigned to the Dive Locker.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair diving systems, breathing apparatus, communication systems, and associated support equipment.
- Repair, install, and maintain navigational buoys, moorings, anchors, and related marine infrastructure.
- Perform assigned work inside underwater vessels, tanks, confined spaces, and other restricted access environments.
- Operate support vessels and small craft as authorized and trained.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, welding equipment, and underwater tools to complete maintenance and repair activities.
- Ensure proper use, inspection, and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and life support equipment.
- Complete dive logs, maintenance records, inspection reports, and operational documentation.
- Participate in emergency response, rescue, and recovery operations as required.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA Commercial Diving Regulations, U.S. Cost Guard requirements and company safety policies.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of a U.S. Certified commercial diving school.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of three (3) years of commercial diving experience preferred.
- Ability to pass and maintain a diving physical in accordance with OSHA Commercial Diving Regulations.
- A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle. Valid country driver’s license. and passport.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all required facility credentials, security clearances, and authorizations.
- Ability to complete contract medical requirements and maintain qualifications throughout deployment.
- Must be able to speak, read, and comprehend English.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting marine construction, ship repair, underwater inspections, or salvage operations.
- Experience operating hyperbaric chambers and supporting recompression treatments.
- Prior experience working in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce
- Knowledge of underwater cutting, welding, and marine fabrication techniques.
- Experience operating small boats and marine support vessels.
- Current CPR, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, or Dive Medic Certifications.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain required country visas in accordance with the U.S. Department of State.
- Additional certifications or qualifications as required by contract or assignment.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
