Amentum is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Worker to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform tasks associated with the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the wastewater treatment plant under the direct supervision of the Designated Responsible Charge (DRC).
- Operate and monitor wastewater treatment equipment, systems, and processes to ensure proper functionality and compliance with regulatory and operational standards.
- Assist in routine inspections and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment used in wastewater treatment operations.
- Collect wastewater samples and assist with laboratory testing to ensure process consistency and compliance with environmental standards.
- Accurately document operational readings, equipment logs, and performance data to report to the DRC and management.
- Clean, adjust, and troubleshoot wastewater treatment plant equipment, following prescribed procedures and safety standards.
- Handle hazardous substances (HS) in compliance with safety guidelines and established procedures for response to spills or releases.
- Participate in training programs and exercises related to spill and hazardous substance response to maintain operational readiness.
- Follow all protocols and operational procedures to comply with government, environmental, and safety regulations.
- Assist with emergency repairs and respond to urgent operational needs as directed by the DRC or management.
- Required to comply with all occupational safety and health standards, rules, and orders applicable to their actions and conduct. The role demands consistent, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proactive reporting of workplace hazards, and total adherence to safety protocols to maintain a zero-injury environment.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Required Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of experience in wastewater treatment plant operations or a related field.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic understanding of wastewater treatment methods, equipment, and safety practices.
- Familiarity with hazardous substances (HS) handling procedures and spill or release response.
- Ability to work under the supervision of the Designated Responsible Charge (DRC) in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records and operational logs.
- Must be able to speak, read, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport should be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
- Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce is preferred.
- Valid country driver's license.
- Training or certification in wastewater treatment operations, including basic knowledge of hazardous substance handling and spill response.
- Experience with regulatory record-keeping and compliance in the operation of treatment plants or water/wastewater systems.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical or electrical troubleshooting in an industrial or treatment plant setting.
- Ability to prioritize and respond effectively during emergency situations.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
