Scientific Software Engineer

We are building a new global Digital Engineering organization with a clear mission: To rethink how engineering software and digital tools are serving our customers and engineers and changing our processes.
You are our key player to bridge the intersection between physical product development, engineering science, and software.
You will collaborate with product developers, engineers, and research specialists to understand complex technical challenges and help translate scientific and engineering knowledge into structured digital and software solutions. The role requires someone who is comfortable engaging with advanced technical matters, while still having software development as a key responsibility and expertise.
Together with the Digital Engineering team, you will create software solutions, scientific models, and digital tools that support product development, simulation, analysis, and engineering decision-making.
Key responsibilities
- Bridge product engineering, research, and software development by translating complex engineering and scientific knowledge into structured digital approaches and solutions
- Support early-stage development, centrally and in collaboration with local engineering teams in implementing their own solutions
- Rapidly develop and deliver next-generation engineering solutions using agentic engineering (AI)
- Keep track of trends, drive experiments with new development methodologies (AI/ML) and practices, and help scale those that prove valuable.
We expect you to have
- Master of Science education in Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, or a similar scientific/engineering field — or equivalent depth gained through advanced engineering work
- Proven experience in developing software products from start to finish
- Able to reason using first principles and engage in detailed technical discussions with simulation and product development engineers
- Deep theoretical knowledge that is still active and applicable; mathematics, mechanics, tribology, modelling, systems thinking
- Practical experience with modern cloud platforms, APIs, data pipelines and CI/CD setups.
- Experience and strong interest in AI and machine learning, including using AI-assisted development tools and/or building ML-enabled features.
- Excellent communication skills in English and a collaborative, can-do mindset.
- Demonstrated habit of running own side projects or private initiatives exploring new software technologies, tools or methodologies.
- Solid programming skills and hands-on experience with modern programming languages, such as Python, C++, TypeScript
- Ability to move fast, work with ambiguity, and take ownership from problem to solution.
