Description
The Jewellery Team works collaboratively within the Marketplace Department to process incoming stock. Team members work together hands-on, sharing hallmarking knowledge, identifying materials, and supporting each other as they evaluate and catalogue different pieces each day.
Every day, the team receives a vast and diverse range of jewellery, from everyday costume pieces to fine silver, gold, and antique treasures. As a Jewellery Product Assessor, this role bridges the gap between incoming stock and the marketplace. By carefully identifying, sorting, and cataloguing each piece with accuracy and attention to detail, this position ensures every item is properly categorized and accurately listed so it can be rediscovered and find its next home.
- Jewellery is evaluated, catalogued, and listed accurately, minimizing item errors and queries.
- Daily processing targets are met consistently while maintaining high standards of inspection and description quality.
- Practical knowledge of precious metals, hallmarks, and gemstones develops steadily through hands-on work and shared team expertise.
- Inventory moves smoothly through the department without bottlenecks or backlogs.
What You’ll Do
Assessment & Inspection* Inspect items to verify precious metals, test and identify gemstones, decipher hallmarks, and recognise maker's marks accurately.
- Authenticate incoming pieces by checking for signs of restoration, damage, weight discrepancies, or synthetic components.
Research un-hallmarked, antique, or unusual items using reference materials and internal documentation.

Cataloguing & Listing
- Draft precise product descriptions that capture key features, condition, and stylistic era.
- Record accurate technical specifications into departmental systems, including dimensions, weights, stone types, and metal purities.
Categorise inventory systematically to ensure correct platform placement and search visibility.

Operational Excellence* Sort incoming stock efficiently across costume, silver, gold, and antique categories to maintain stock flow.
- Process items at a consistent pace to meet daily listing targets and prevent department bottlenecks.
Maintain clear workspace organisation to safeguard high-value and delicate inventory during evaluation.

Teamwork & Knowledge Sharing* Collaborate with colleagues to troubleshoot ambiguous hallmarks, unidentified stones, or complex pieces.
- Share technical findings and testing techniques across the team to build collective product knowledge.
- Assist with onboarding new team members by demonstrating inspection processes and cataloguing standards.
What You’ll Bring
- A demonstrable interest or passion for vintage and antique items, such as jewellery, gold, silver.
- The aptitude and willingness to learn to work productively and accurately when performing regular tasks, maintaining a high standard.
- Basic competency with IT and online tools, and a strong desire to learn how to create listings and maintain records on online platforms.
- Hands-on experience working directly with jewellery, vintage goods, or precious metals.
- Practical understanding of hallmarking systems, alloy purities, and core gemstone characteristics.
- Sharp visual awareness to identify subtle maker's marks, metal wear, and signs of alteration or repair.
- Proficiency using computers and digital inventory systems to record accurate product details.
- Ability to maintain high detail accuracy while consistently meeting daily processing targets.
- Collaborative mindset with an openness to asking questions and sharing product insights with team members.
- Prior experience with e-commerce listing workflows or online product database entry.
- Knowledge of specific historical design movements, such as Victorian, Art Nouveau, or Art Deco jewellery.
Familiarity with basic gemmological testing tools, such as loupes, magnet tests, and refractometers.
