Job description
Would you like to make nitrocellulose production more resource-efficient and sustainable? We are looking for a postdoc at the competence centre Svenskt Krut at KTH, where academia, government agencies and industry jointly strengthen Sweden's capability in nitrocellulose (NC).

In the project we analyse the nitration process and sub-processes for rthe ecovery and reuse of acids, washing water and solvents. Your role is to map and quantify process and residual streams, establish mass balances and evaluate recovery techniques such as distillation, membrane processes and sorption.
You will carry out laboratory and smaller pilot trials on the most promising solutions, perform a techno-economic analysis and propose a greener NC process. Flow simulation and AI-supported data analysis are central tools. The work is carried out at the Department of Fibre and Polymer Technology and in collaboration with FOI and industrial partners.
Qualifications
Requirements
- A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
- Documented scientific expertise in chemical engineering, process engineering or a closely related field, demonstrated through publications.
- Experience of mass balances, flow simulation or separation and recovery techniques (e.g. distillation, membranes or sorption).
- Very good command of English, spoken and written, as it is required in the daily work.
- As a person you are independent, take initiative and have a strong ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment.
- Swedish citizenship.
Preferred qualifications
- A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
- Experience of techno-economic analysis or sustainability assessment of processes.
- Experience of AI- or data-driven process analysis.
- Experience of working in an industry-related process environment, preferably with acids or residual streams.
- Teaching abilities.
- Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.
