This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer who enjoys combining technical leadership, product ownership, innovation, and hands-on engineering in an international environment. You will have a significant impact on the development strategy, performance, and future direction of our RAP product range while working closely with colleagues across functions and locations globally.
Your Responsibilities
As our Lead Mechanical R&D Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the ongoing development, performance, quality, and competitiveness of the assigned product portfolio. You will serve as a senior technical authority within the mechanical engineering team and support product strategy, innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Product Leadership & Portfolio Development
- Drive the mechanical design direction of the RAP product range.
- Participate in Product Committee activities and ensure execution of agreed actions.
- Support strategic product development initiatives.
- Collaborate with Sales, Service, and Sales Support on technical requests and product-related inquiries.
- Continuously optimize product costs while maintaining quality standards.
- Contribute to customer claim handling and product improvement activities.
- Provide technical mentoring and guidance to fellow engineers.
Mechanical Engineering & R&D
- Lead complex mechanical design activities from concept through release.
- Design mechanical systems, conveyor solutions, and automated equipment layouts.
- Conduct simulations, testing, and R&D activities to validate new concepts and technologies.
- Develop prototypes and evaluate emerging technologies together with global R&D teams.
- Participate in risk assessments, FMEA sessions, and compliance activities.
- Support installation and troubleshooting activities when required.
Engineering Execution
- Create CAD models and technical drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
- Develop production documentation, bills of materials, and engineering specifications.
- Perform analytical calculations and engineering evaluations.
- Execute prototype testing, analyse results, and recommend improvements.
- Collaborate with suppliers and external partners on technical matters.
- Support standardization, modularization, and ongoing development of engineering systems and product configurators.
What We're Looking For
You are an experienced mechanical engineer who thrives on solving complex technical challenges while balancing commercial, quality, and product requirements. You enjoy working collaboratively and can confidently take technical ownership of projects and product development initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 4-6 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering and R&D with experience leading mechanical design activities.
- Experience working in an international environment.
- Strong knowledge of Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar CAD platforms.
- Experience with technical documentation, product development, and engineering calculations.
- Experience with cost analysis and optimization.
- Ability to work independently and provide technical leadership to others.
- Fluent in written and spoken English
It Is an Advantage If You Also Have
- Experience with throughput simulations, machine design, structural calculations, and dynamics.
- Experience with PDM/PLM systems.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX.
- Experience participating in customer meetings, design reviews, and site visits.
