About Jeppesen ForeFlight
Jeppesen ForeFlight brings together decades of Jeppesen's aeronautical data expertise with ForeFlight's award-winning flight planning and navigation platform. Our software supports pilots, airlines, and flight departments around the world, delivering mission-critical tools for safe and efficient flight operations. As we continue to grow our presence in Europe, we're building out our Denmark-based team and are looking for a strong technical lead to help guide it.
About the Role
We're looking for a Tech Lead to join our engineering team in Denmark. You'll be a hands-on software developer who also guides the technical direction of your team, setting the standard for code quality, architecture, and engineering practices. You'll split your time between writing code and mentoring other engineers, working closely with your engineering manager and product partners to help the team deliver reliable, high-quality software for pilots and flight operations worldwide.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and ship high-quality software as a hands-on contributor, while spending a meaningful portion of your time on core development work.
- Guide technical decisions for your team, including architecture, design patterns, and technology choices.
- Break down complex product requirements into well-scoped technical plans and help the team estimate and sequence work.
- Mentor and support other engineers on the team through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
- Partner with your engineering manager on team health, technical roadmap, and prioritization, without owning formal people-management responsibilities.
- Champion engineering best practices, including testing, CI/CD, code review standards, and operational excellence.
- Identify technical debt and reliability risks, and help the team plan and execute improvements alongside feature work.
- Collaborate with other tech leads and engineering teams to align on cross-team architecture and shared systems.
- Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis for production issues, helping the team improve system reliability over time.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong track record of shipping production software.
- Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership on a team, whether as a tech lead, senior/staff engineer, or similar role.
- Strong software design and architecture skills, with the ability to make sound trade-offs between speed, quality, and maintainability.
- Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages relevant to our stack (e.g., Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, or C#).
- Experience with API design, databases, and building reliable, scalable services or applications.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
- A collaborative mindset and genuine interest in helping other engineers grow.
- Experience with modern engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, and code review.
- Based in Denmark or willing to work from our Denmark location, with authorization to work in the EU.
Nice to Have
- Experience building software in aviation, geospatial, or other safety-critical, data-intensive domains.
- Experience working with distributed teams spanning Europe and the US.
- Full-stack experience across front-end and backend systems.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS or GCP) and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Interest in aviation or flight operations.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- The chance to shape both the technical direction and the team culture of a growing engineering group.
- A collaborative, international team spanning Europe and the US.
- Flexible working arrangements and a strong culture of continuous learning.
- Opportunities for professional growth within a growing European engineering hub.
